Americans are not ready to watch sons and daughters hunted by FPV drones. Some may not like this post, and that’s OK. Some may see this as being a “panican,” and that is also OK. My tolerance for American blood being spilled is very, very low. But this needs to be said: If you have paid any attention to the war in Ukraine, you will know how drone warfare has escalated. You will have an understanding of the sophistication of the Ukrainians and Russians in their pursuit of hunting and killing each other with human-guided robots strapped with explosives. We know Russia and Iran share military ties; hell, the most common form of long-range standoff munition used to target Ukrainian infrastructure is an Iranian-designed Shahed drone. Now, are the Iranians as sophisticated as the Russians? No. But will a ground action result in grainy videos of Americans being hit by FPV drones? Almost certainly. Could the deployment of ground forces to the Gulf be a feint? Sure, it could be, but this point extends beyond Iran. The U.S. needs to be ready to counter the drone menace. I won’t pretend to know the inner machinations of the Joint Chiefs, the White House, or President Trump, but with the destruction of an E-3 Sentry on the runway, it has become absolutely clear the U.S. armed forces have not scaled their ability to handle drones. I don’t know what the answer here is, but I haven’t seen this point brought up at the frequency it deserves. It needs to be said. We are not ready for footage of American soldiers and Marines cowering in their last moments, set to some upbeat pop song or some cleric screaming praises to Allah.

The 🇨🇳 AFT-10 Missile Tank Destroyer
Developed in the late 1990s–2010s, the AFT-10 is a Chinese long-range tank destroyer built on the ZBD-04A infantry fighting vehicle chassis. Designed to support mechanized formations, the vehicle mounts a large rotating launcher carrying eight HJ-10 “Red Arrow-10” anti-tank guided missiles, giving it the ability to engage enemy armor and helicopters at extreme distances.
The hull is constructed from welded steel armor, providing protection against small arms and machine guns. Armor thickness ranges from 40mm on the lower glacis to 10–20mm on the sides and roof, sufficient for a vehicle intended to fight from long range. The vehicle also includes smoke grenade launchers and an NBC protection system.
Weighing 29t, the AFT-10 is powered by a 600hp 6V150 diesel engine, allowing a top speed of 65 kmh. It retains the mobility of the ZBD-04A platform and is fully amphibious. The vehicle is operated by a crew of three: commander, driver, and missile operator.
Mounted on top of the hull is a 360° rotating launcher containing two banks of four HJ-10 missiles, capable of –3° depression and +40° elevation. Between the launchers sits a spherical sensor module containing thermal imaging, optical cameras, and a laser rangefinder, allowing the system to operate in all weather conditions.
The HJ-10 missile is a 170mm fiber-optic guided ATGM weighing roughly 43kg, with a maximum range of 10km and a flight speed of about 250m/s. Two warhead types are known: a tandem HEAT for defeating modern ERA and a top-attack variant for engaging heavily armored targets. The vehicle carries eight ready missiles, with additional rounds supplied by support vehicles.
The AFT-10 first appeared publicly in 2014 as the first operational carrier of the HJ-10 missile system. While exact production numbers remain unknown, the vehicle is believed to serve with Chinese mechanized and armored units, providing long-range anti-armor firepower.
