Today the NYPD reported that major crime in the subway system is down more than 18 percent in the first three months of 2025, the second lowest level in recorded history. MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber issued the following statement in response: “The latest subway crime numbers are great news for New Yorkers. As we have been saying all year, the steps that the Governor, City Hall, the NYPD, and the MTA have taken are working and making the system safer. Indeed, crime numbers have been driven down to record lows. And we’re not finished.
