@ScarredForLife2 The ghost of Raynham Hall used to drift down our landing at night too. I had the welsh version of this book and used to love/hate it.

THE USBORNE BOOK OF GHOSTS (1977) was a gateway drug for 70s kids. It was certainly the most terrifying book I'd ever encountered.
