@mert255733 @BertDalziel Of course your upbringing affects your identity BUT being a man or a woman ISN’T an identity. It is an objective fact just like your age, height or eye colour.

@BertDalziel No, I think it's just more complex than scientific reductionism. The body isn't always simple, and our culture and upbringing affect our identities as much as our genome might

@Kat_Says_Stuff @KateBMwriting But they won’t be impacted if they’re female. If they’re male regardless of what ethnicity they are, they shouldn’t be competing with women. Are you suggesting that we only stop white males but let males of other ethnicities carry on taking women’s places?

@KateBMwriting I wish you understood nuance and context. Black people are more likely to be intersex or have DSD. So they are more likely to be impacted by this. Just as ginger haired people are more likely to wake up under anaesthesia

@moonbeamer6 @benryanwriter But “intersex” men are. All DSDs are sex specific. Any males (including those who were mistakenly declared to be female at birth) will not be eligible.

@brookelynn74 @sharrond62 What ramifications would those be? That only female people are eligible for the female category no matter how they look or identify? Quelle horreur!

@sharrond62 You all have no idea what the ramifications of this ruling will be because you can’t look past your fucking echo chambers. Your ignorance and the ignorance of everyone who supported this and pushed for its implementation has hurt women and girls.

The Guardian has become a rag! If every woman has to do a sex screening test no one is singled out. Let alone women of colour. What a disgusting racist comment. Sex screening has zero to do with ethnicity, & everything to do with biological sex. Nothing more.

@PW26228 @AthleticsImages @AthleticsWeekly When Ben Johnson was stripped of his gold medal in 1988, that’s exactly what happened: Carl Lewis was given gold, Linford Christie was given Silver and Calvin Smith was awarded bronze. If someone’s disqualified for any reason, they don’t bring in a replacement from the heats.

After today's excellent decision by the IOC.,if the Rio 2016 women's 800m. was held today, the 3 medallists in my photo. Wambui, Niyonsaba & Semenya would be barred and the medals would go to Canada's Melissa Bishop, Poland's Joanna Jozwik & GB's Lynsey Sharp @AthleticsWeekly

@Hontas_Farmer @interACT_adv If you take the tiny percentage of the population who are elite athletes and cross reference it with the tiny percentage of the population who have the specific DSD you describe and they don’t already know about it, I’d be surprised if there’s more than one in the next decade.

If this remains the case in 2028 then there WILL be XX women born and lived their whole lives as women who find out they have a DSD. Who then will need more detailed examination with their business broadcast to the whole planet in real time. A policy that went on a case by case, sport by sport, basis would've been a real principled stand but that would be asking too much.

@AndrewAyr @philjones461 @sharrond62 He was 20yrs past his best, was badly injured 3yrs earlier and was still able to take the place of a younger, fitter woman at her peak. If you can’t see the obvious male advantage from that, I genuinely don’t know what to say. Him failing his lifts on the day is irrelevant.

@SimphiweSimpra5 @MOR_KAY_BRO @Riley_Gaines_ Categories by their nature are exclusive - that’s literally the point of them. We include people by making sure there’s a category for everyone. Transwomen are included in the male category so there’s no issue.

@biebs_john84713 @glindaupland The reality is . You are defending something you don't even understand. No one and I mean no one is trying to tell you a trans women has the same internal organs as a cis women. The point is. Why does it matter. Gendered sports is outdated. Make weight, experience classes

@drinksafeee @biebs_john84713 @glindaupland Does it warrant a “breaking news” headline?! All it does is put a spotlight on trans people who just want to live their lives. Just look at the responses to this message and you’d think trans people are evil incarnate. THAT is the “evil agenda” here!

@skarsgardcharts @biebs_john84713 @glindaupland Black women might have higher testosterone than white women but they’re not men are they, so they don’t have testosterone that is equivalent to male levels. Are you honestly comparing black women to men (as racists have done for years) and thinking you have the moral high ground?

@C601kraken @Math_files The basis of the joke is that BOTH mathematicians are misogynistic. The one who is openly saying sexist things AND the other one who assumes that there’s no way a waitress would be able to answer the question on her own.

Two mathematicians were in a restaurant. One of them was a hard-core misogynist and claimed that women were never any good at maths, especially the blonde ones. His friend claimed that there was no difference and that women were just as capable as men. When the misogynist went for a cigarette, the other guy called over the blonde waitress. “My friend and I are having an argument. When he gets back I’ll call you over and ask you a question. The answer you need to give is ‘a third X cubed’. Can you do that?” “Thurdeks coobed?” “a third X cubed.” “a Third Ekscubed. Sure I can do that.” The other chap comes back to the table and his friend says. “I’ll prove to you that women are as good as men at maths. See the blond waitress; I’ll ask her a question and we’ll see if she knows any maths.” So he calls the waitress over and asks, “What is the integral of X squared?” As quick as a shot, she comes out with “A third X cubed.” The misogynist is stunned. The waitress smiles and walks away. Then she stops and calls back, “plus a constant.”

@TwinkTeacup @sappholives83 It’s a social role that’s tied to sexed reality. And it’s the regressive bit that we should be throwing out, not reifying and making the sole definition of woman. It’s profoundly offensive to anyone who has even the smallest understanding of the history of female oppression.

@sappholives83 Who created language? and what changes in language? and who decides that? Fact is, you are an adult human female If we wanted to refer to you as a person with a vagina that is what we would call you But a woman is a social role with human-made norms and expectations that change

What’s staggering, “Artemis,” is how desperate you are to redefine womanhood in a way that includes you. Women are adult human females. Politics have nothing to do with it. You’re either female or you’re not — and you’re not.
