Revolut now has 1.2M customers in Switzerland🇨🇭 and is the 3rd-largest bank in the country by customer count. Now it plans to apply for a Swiss banking licence, as I speculated earlier. "Acquiring a local bank is no longer being pursued", said David Tirado, Revolut's CEO in Switzerland. When asked if this will happen this year, they said: "That's possible, although we don't want to and can't commit to anything yet." "Acquiring a Swiss banking license would further strengthen our market position in Switzerland," said Tirado. Revolut is likely to launch Swiss joint accounts, but "we can't give an exact timeframe yet, but it's definitely something we're looking into more closely," said Tirado. Revolut is withdrawing from New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Wallis and Futuna - French non-EU overseas territories due to regulatory constraints. Until this point, Revolut offered its services in these territories through its Revolut Bank UAB - Lithuanian bank. However, because EU banking regulations do not allow banks to offer services outside the EU and EEA, Revolut has announced to its customers that it will close accounts on 20th February 2026. Revolut had about 14,000 customers in these French Pacific territories. Customers are disappointed by this move, and the government of #NewCaledonia has lobbied the French Minister of Economy and Finance to amend national law to remove this regulatory barrier and allow such platforms to offer services in the territory. These three territories have a combined population of over 0.5M, so Revolut account adoption rate was’t high, perhaps intentionally from Revolut’s side? But it's not all over, Revolut is applying for a banking license in France. A French authorised bank can offer banking services in French overseas territories, because territories remain subject to French national banking regulations. Revolut continues provide services in the following French overseas territories: #FrenchGuiana #Guadeloupe #Martinique #Mayotte #Réunion #SaintMartin (French part)
