@AAGDhillon @nytimes Uhm, asking for a friend, but while investigating, can you find out why docs do not take a semester on nutrition, but NPs are required to? 🤷‍♀️😎🙄😬🤨😡

@AAGDhillon @HarmeetKDhillon @nytimes @MaryBowdenMD I have heard from numerous friends who were unable to get into medical school because they were white. Had excellent grades rigorous classes, etc and were declined. They said due to DEi quotas. Question-last 10 years, how many actually graduate from med school?

@MaryBowdenMD @JBlunt1018 Many end up going back to their home country after their training. So what doctors are left for US citizens?

Take the 12,000 doctor gap and compound it. That’s 60,000 fewer doctors in 5 years. 120,000 fewer in 10 years. And people still act confused about: —long wait times — no specialists — overcrowded systems — rural care collapsing We need IMG’s to fill our gaps, we are not replacing US grads.
James Blunt@JBlunt1018

When you zoom out: ~40,000 residency spots ~28,000 U.S. grads That leaves ~12,000 seats with NO American doctors to fill them. So who exactly is being “replaced”?

@aaronjcrook01 @bigalleycat @johnjoy82 @DefiantLs Sounds good! How about you get up at 5am, commute an hour, work 12 hours, commute home. Do that 5-6 days per week and send money to me to buy my family's health insurance, internet & food. I'll just sleep in and play video games all day while watching my IRA & trust fund grow

@BB_FISH70 @HannahDCox You need a prescription. Go to a low-cost or mobile clinic for a cheaper exam and to get the Rx

I think we’re going to be adding vets to the list of “see only for pain” professionals. Yesterday we took our two dogs in for their annuals - both in excellent health, both cared for better than most humans. Neither presenting any issues. For vaccines (they likely don’t even need), heartworm/flea meds, and their exams it was $1150. Even the vet tech acknowledged it was crazy when checking us out. I’m so tired of living in ScAmerica.

@HannahDCox I would never take dogs to vet except that boarding facilities require shots. If you don't have anyone to watch your dog, you're stuck and have to use a boarding kennel if you go out of town.

@bigalleycat @johnjoy82 @DefiantLs All welfare should be structured like Medicaid where the state recoups the cost of nursing home care when the patient dies by going after the estate & the value of the home. Medicaid allows only $2K in bank accounts.

@DefiantLs There's a guy worth $4M (RootOfGood website) who gets basically free health insurance, internet, dental & more for his whole family since he keeps most of the $ in his IRA & house. He retired at age 33 & taxpayers pay for him. All welfare should be means tested. Total baloney!

@Lebbowski_ @GooseFraba48898 @DefiantLs Structure all welfare like Medicaid where the state only allows one to have $2k in cash before paying for nursing home care and then recoups any money paid from the estate (sale of personal home) when the person dies

@GooseFraba48898 @DefiantLs You could easily exclude houses and look at a threshold over “x” amount of dollars in your retirement/savings accounts. Its not rocket science.

@GooseFraba48898 @DefiantLs Really simple solution: Primary residence equity doesn’t count towards the asset limit You can also do the same for 401k/IRA Please try thinking for 5 seconds instead of just instantly rejecting a policy change in its entirety

@5forfighting @DefiantLs Yes! It's total BS. There's a guy with a website (RootOfGood) that details how he has a net worth of about $4 million, and his family gets subsidized and almost free health insurance, internet, dental and other freebies paid by taxpayers. He retired at 33 and now we pay his bills

@DefiantLs Obamacare is the same thing. Subsidies are based on a person’s MAGI, not assets. Make it appear that you’re poor on your tax return and it’s max subsidies baby!!

@Valkyrie137320 @MaryBowdenMD I can see that being the case if a medical student receives poor feedback and does poorly on shelf exams, step 1 (ungraded) practice exams and/or step 2 exam, they may realize their only realistic prospect is primary care (low pay) or not matching and do a cost/benefit analysis.

@lynnbee220 @MaryBowdenMD You probably don't know enough people. Lots of people drop out with cost being one of the primary reasons. Yes that's what I mean by accessible. Issues at home needs sorting first before spreading hate aimed at foreign student doctors.

This is not a two-way street. American medical students are not leaving the country to finish their training. Why is America handing over our most competitive profession to foreigners?

@Valkyrie137320 @MaryBowdenMD I don't know any med student who turned down med school because of affordability. And by accessible, do you mean accept the best and the brightest US citizen without regard to color of skin? So many brilliant US citizens are not accepted because their skin is too light

@MaryBowdenMD Your arguments and data don’t match. For top specialties, majority matching are US med school grads. Supply and demand is key here. Should we close the Carribean schools where most students are US grads and further enhance the doc shortages in the country?

@StroingCra12213 @MaryBowdenMD No. Free medical school tuition has nothing to do with this. And the discussion at hand is about residency programs. Residents do not pay tuition. Rather, they are paid employees of the hospital/medical center.

@MaryBowdenMD If we educated our doctors for free, then we would not have this problem. Cuba exported doctors to the world. They educated them for the world. That is how it should work. Instead it is a massive for profit system that doesn't help the people. Think about that

@WHTWalkerOld @MaryBowdenMD LOL. They are all going to stay. And their immediate family. And then their extended family. And then they will have kids here who are US citizens and can vote in US elections at age 18. Demographics change slowly and then all at once.

@CandyGar4414 @MaryBowdenMD Is your daughter a US citizen? No US citizen would go to a foreign medical school unless they were not admitted to a US medical school. The hierarchy is MD school > DO school > Caribbean medical school.
