This afternoon, we were back to Luzira Upper Prison to check on comrade Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro following the court's refusal to grant him bail. He is, of course, hurt that he won't say farewell to his beloved wife, but he is very strong. He says, "This is part of what we signed up for by engaging in a struggle against dictatorship." Profoundly, he added that, "We are in this because of our foresightedness. Even those who mock us because they're myopic will come to understand us when they experience what we're experiencing." He sends all of you greetings and appreciates the entire nation for standing together with him in this period.

WATCH: Leader of Opposition @JoelSsenyonyi gives an overview after the Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court denied bail to @NUP_Ug deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, to attend his wife’s burial.
According to Mr Ssenyonyi, the state prosecutor rejected two proposed sureties for Mr Mufumbiro’s release, including his father, Moses Baligeya, on grounds that he is too close to him, and Kampala Lord Mayor–elect Ronald Balimwezo, on grounds that he is not sufficiently close to compel his attendance in court. The media was barred from the session.

@DavidLRubongoya Guns can be the only solution to redeem Uganda from this madness, make the country uncomfortable and ungovernable. We should turn rebel otherwise Uganda is a military dictatorship.

The 31st day of January 2025 was indeed a day of great deception in Uganda. (It must have only two competitors - Independence Day and the NRA day.) On that day, the Supreme Court of Uganda put an end to the trial of civilians in military courts - or so it thought it had. We rejoiced. We chanted. We celebrated.
Those of us who had been to the Makindye based military court countless times to stand in solidarity with political prisoners breathed a sigh of relief. We did media interviews and declared victory against the full-blown injustices at the hands of military courts. The celebration was short-lived.
Firstly, the files involving political prisoners have not been transferred to civilian courts, and our comrades continue to languish in jail, 5, 6 years later.
Secondly, the law was re-enacted in almost similar terms as the one nullified by the Supreme Court. Civilians are still being tried in military courts.
Thirdly and most painful of all, the very mannerisms of the military courts were transplanted into the ordinary courts almost immediately. One can hardly tell what difference the ruling made!
What were our quarrels with the military courts? Long periods of detention without trial. The court entertaining clearly trumped up charges that made neither legal nor logical sense. The court acting on or waiting for orders from above, even on basic procedures like granting or not granting bail. The denial of basic trial rights, including media blockades. The court sending on remand victims of torture, as well as those who had been held incommunicado for weeks, months, or years. Etc.
Many thought that the trouble was that the Chairperson and Members of the military courts hadn't obtained legal education. Nobody imagined that some judicial officials - well trained in the law - would seek to outdo military courts in defeating justice.
Cry beloved country!

Alongside his twin brother and other comrades, we visited our brother Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro at Luzira Upper Prison this morning, following the death of his wife to try and comfort him in this very sad situation. He is devastated by the news, which he first learnt from fellow prisoners who heard it on radio. His greatest regret is that he was not able to be by her side as she breathed her last. He hopes against hope that he can be released on bail so that he lays her to rest. What hurts him more is that on the day the regime claims he took part in "unlawful drilling," he was at Uganda Cancer Institute, desperately trying to get medical attention for his wife. The price of freedom! Let's all keep him in our prayers.

@DailyMonitor Museveni is keeping the husband who would have been there in the final hours of a wife’s life in prison for no offence🥲but one day M7 and gang will pay the price of this brutality.

Fellow Ugandans,
It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our dear sister and comrade, Edith Katende Mufumbiro, the wife of our Deputy Spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro.
Edith passed on after 3:00am today following a hard-fought battle with cancer. At the time of her passing, her dear husband Waiswa remains detained at Luzira Upper Prison for no crime whatsoever. His only crime is speaking out against injustice and misrule.
The criminal regime placed on him and others the sham charge of "Unlawful Drilling" which apparently took place on 12th February 2025 at our Party Headquarters. In fact, on that day, Waiswa never stepped there as he was at Mulago Cancer Institute with the wife! The judiciary, fully aware of these facts, has chosen to conspire in this persecution.
Waiswa, alongside other comrades, has applied for bail severally. He has variously made an impassioned plea to the Court to be released on bail so that he takes care of his sick wife, but it has been denied. The injustice!
As difficult as it is, we remain hopeful that we shall overcome some day. May God grant the family, especially our brother Waiswa, the strength he needs at this time.

@SpireJim @HEBobiwine We shall never forgive Museveni and his entire family, they’ll pay by blood for all this. Just a matter of time.
English

She’s dead! For them it’s just politics, for another family it is a loved one gone - just because she held a different political opinion! How do you expect others to feel your pain when you are directly killing their own! Can we ever have peace where we’ve inflicted such pointless permanent pain on others? Would you pretend to be angry when such innocent people you’ve harmed and hurt celebrate your own pain?
English

@AAgather @yubdenis1 Museveni and family will at the end pay for this, quite unfortunate 🥲

Our patient Irene has died😭😭 @yubdenis1 and I were the other day talking about how to intervene some more but unfortunately we are too late. Thank you all that stood with her. May her soul rest in eternal peace 🙏
