@EloiseCorvo Unstable collapsing cavern. They got to get out. Quick! Maim them when they dally. No one's left behind! Make sure they barely make it out.

@EmmaIllustrate @BBCLeeds Bradford Lit Fest might not care that their ad image is not copyrightable , but bigger clients will be, but might not be aware. Let clueless marketing managers fear that their ad images can be reproduced elsewhere without them being able to stop it legally of they use AI.

I'll be on @BBCLeeds Radio tomorrow Thurs 4th May morning at 8am. I'm talking about how AI in its current form scrapes stolen artwork, infringes copyright, and how this affects artists, the creative sector & the wider implications on humanity & job losses.

Why did you use AI to create these images @BradfordLitFest instead of hiring an illustrator? 😭 There's currently no ethical way to engage in AI as it scrapes millions of images without people's consent, which is hours of unpaid labour. It's infringement & it sends a bad message

Young educated Chinese people aren't interested in blue-collar work because it breaks the social contract. These are not well-paid trades jobs like in the West- this is back-breaking, underpaid labor with no mobility and no job security. Everyone in their family sacrificed so they could move even one rung up the ladder. I spent over a decade finishing cram-school at around 9:30-10:00PM, then up at 6AM for school. No breaks, no hobbies other than more study (English)- and I wasn't even a great student. My friends were brutalized over grades- some physically beaten, for years. They didn't choose their college majors they were chosen for them because they were told that's where the jobs were, they obeyed, they followed the rules- they kept up their end of the social contract. They were obedient and dutiful, they trusted the system- they held up their end of the social contract. Got good grades, and didn't get "useless" degrees. All so they could get a decent job to help their families, buy an apartment, get a hukou, start a family. The Chinese Dream they were promised. Now they are being told by the rich "oh you're so spoiled, you want a white-collar job, you should do deliveries and live in a dorm room with four other guys"- while the children of those same rich who didn't even take the Gaokao (Chinese SAT), didn't have to study hard- just went to overseas and cheated their way through school, buy their fifth apartment. So why should they have gone through all that pain and sacrifice? They could have just dropped out of school at 16 and gotten the same job? The problem is the ruling class ensured generational wealth for their own kids at the cost of any economic mobility for everyone else. Empty homes as a store of wealth for the rich- none for young, highly skilled people to start a family and live in. Cushy overpaid jobs for undereducated children of rich Chinese- factory work for people who actually paid their dues and took their own tests. This is China- no one is lazy, but no one is going to follow a broken contract or do back-breaking work for no hope of a better life.

I remember some reporting of the "lying flat" or "put rotten" culture that was trending in China is now a bit going global. Wonder whether this pressure on educated to "take off the scholar gown" to accept physical jobs became more an issue globally. /4

@financeguru_eth @RealSexyCyborg Create a new class of foreign workers that have zero workers rights, zero route to immigration and you too can have cheap domestic workers. That's how the Middle East and Singapore does it. Withholding their passports help too.

@RealSexyCyborg Middle-class people in Asia can easily afford cheap workers, like full-time maids. In Europe and the US, only very rich people can do that.

@RealSexyCyborg @financeguru_eth Every hundred years or so, someone somewhere kills their betters, and everyone learns to behave. Happened in the French Revolution, happened in the Bolshevik Revolution. It might not be in China, it might just be in somewhere surprising.

@financeguru_eth Yeah, unfortunately, pay for trades jobs is very poor here. You can live better back home with your family than you can in a dormitory in another city working for a pittance. Just refusing to participate in system that's rigged is the best form of protest people have.

Foreigners are always quick to assume these are sales girls but a lot of women with small Taobao stores shoot these promo videos themselves and the hustle is just awesome😁

@MKBHD I wish I could select on my iPhone charging speed and max percentage to charge to. So if I charge overnight I could select charge at 5W, or 20W if I need it faster, and I would select to charge up to 85% so battery does not always charge to 100%.

@mikegarndesign My first thought goes to heat. If there is anything computers hate, it's overheating. Seized up joints will burn out servo motors, I've destroyed a few in my time. Miniaturizing High Explosive Incendiary shells to fit small arms.

@mikegarndesign A friend posted a thread about what to teach kids in the uncertain future, and I suggested learning how to fight robots. The ammunition we have deviced over the past 150 years have been designed to stop humans. A company could make bank marketing robot stopping bullets.
