The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll has Trump’s approval rating on the economy sinking to 29%- a new low, worse than any economic approval rating Biden ever received

I agree the CEO of @AirCanada should be fluently bilingual. He isn’t and that should be dealt with. But this week is not the time to make an issue of it. Outside of Quebec and the Ottawa bubble this is a non-issue and it reflects badly on @CanadianPM.

@DimitrisSoudas Its a niche issue that only matters to 12-14% of Canadians. But politicians all feign outrage because a handful of Quebec ridings can at times determine who forms gov.

Sir, We understand that the French language seems to irritate you, as though it were an inconvenience rather than a foundational element of this country. But the facts remain. One of the pilots was a Quebecer, a francophone. His family and loved ones deserved to hear a message in French. Out of respect. Out of dignity. Out of basic humanity. And beyond that, there is the law. Air Canada is subject to the Official Languages Act. It is a law, sir. Not a recommendation. Not optional. An obligation. This does not diminish the tragedy or the suffering of the victims. It simply affirms that in Canada, respect for both official languages is not conditional, especially in moments of national grief. And if the message had been delivered only in French, you would be asking the same question. So let’s ask it honestly, both ways. Because respect cannot be one-sided.

An Air Canada plane crashes, resulting in the deaths of two pilots. Over on Radio-Canada, the "conservative" on the panel is having a fit that the Air Canada CEO didn't speak French in his video and demands his resignation over it. Someone should let these people on the panel know that the victims in this tragedy were the pilots and the injured passengers, not the French language.

@jec79 @davidpugliese @Murray_Brewster We have NATO commitments that involve more than just NORAD defense. Canada has deployed CF-18 detachments to Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base in Romania for NATO's enhanced Air Policing on the Black Sea seven times since 2014.

@BrennanBastyo Capital investment across all levels of government has been far below requirement for decades. Budgets have shifted to payroll and headcount, often with little to no ROI.

This is what underinvestment looks like. Aging facilities. Reduced access. Growing demand. Seniors, youth, and community groups are feeling it first. The question isn’t whether we invest. it’s whether we’re willing to be honest about the scale required. cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

Important note regarding the accident at LaGuardia Airport. United 2384 wanted to return to gate. Odor in back of plane. Pilot couldn’t raise anyone at United to help get him a gate. Air traffic controller tried to help. There were no gates. Pilot asked for fire truck. 1/2

@AdramNinja @RonWaxman Union will fight it, no exceptions. Anything that has even a hint of reducing hours or influence will be opposed, even if it saves lives.

@RonWaxman I’m suprised that we don’t have an AI system at least doublechecking human operators. Seems like a fairly simple operation for a computer…. Make sure nothing on the ground or in their touches one another.

@macutty @CHueyBurns Again, nothing has been accomplished to end it. It just keeps going and going like the song that never ends. Same as we idiotically went to Iraq they didn’t finish the job and had to remain there for years. Same with Afghanistan,

I asked Leader Jeffries about Congress approving $170 Billion in Ukraine war funding versus Trump’s $200 Billion ask on Iran. He said: Trump has failed to make the case to Americans, Congress, and NATO, and w/ Ukraine the free world was united to stop Putin

Tom Mulcair on Pierre Poilievre's Joe Rogan appearance: "I thought it was an outstanding piece of political communication, and it was bookended by ... frankly one of the best political speeches I've heard any Canadian political leader give on Canada-US relations in a long time."

"The survey suggesting that 67% of Canadians want tipping to disappear misses a critical piece of context: respondents weren’t asked how food service employees would be compensated instead. If the question included whether they would accept higher menu prices to offset wages, the results would likely look very different."

@raver_lance @saintjavelin That's a tu quoque. LEO doesn't release details during investigations typically. Lack of prosecution ≠ innocence. Besides, institutions were protecting the powerful on both sides of the aisle.

I genuinely cannot wrap my head around this. Russia is feeding Iran targeting intel on US troops. US soldiers are dying. US aircraft are being hit in the Gulf. And the White House response is essentially: “not a big deal.” I REALLY want to believe this is just political theater. That behind closed doors, someone in that administration is taking this seriously and working to stop it. But I have so many doubts… Meanwhile the only winner in this entire chaos is Russia with oil back above $90 and lifted sanctions.
