Before boarding Air Force One to leave Beijing, the entire U.S. delegation dumped every item given to them by Chinese hosts — gifts, badges, pins, commemorative items — into a trash bin on site. Nothing of Chinese origin got on the plane. The delegation had already left personal devices at home and used clean burner phones throughout the trip.

Dead and alive. Former or current. Present or past. Not a single Nigerian former governor, presidential aspirant, or polictian can call out the EFCC for a wrong doing and remain free the next day. I Stan, re-Stan, and AfghaniStan you sir. Nigeria will be OK Insha Allah.

Teargas in a Hospital, a Thoughtless Act. I have just read the recent troubling reports of how the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) allegedly stormed the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in a bid to arrest Professor Eyo Ekpe, a professor of cardiothoracic surgery and deputy chairman of the hospital’s medical advisory committee. While I understand and respect the fact that the EFCC, and indeed, all other government agencies have their constitutional rights to do their jobs without interference, the manner in which some of these jobs are carried out is often deeply troubling. Reportedly, the EFCC operatives who stormed the hospital shot some teargas canisters within the hospital premises which sent medical staff and patients running for safety. This thoughtless act greatly compromised the general safety in the hospital environment and further jeopardised the health of the medical personnel and the sick people in the hospital. I have always said that the most fundamental intangible asset upon which any nation functions effectively is the rule of law and order. The disorderliness allegedly demonstrated by the EFCC operatives at the hospital must not be encouraged. Nothing justifies the use of teargas canisters in a fragile hospital environment. Do we not realise that our hospitals are part of our most critical contributors to development? We must also learn to respect the lives and dignity of our citizens. If a Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery is arrested in such a demeaning manner in a hospital environment, what signals are we sending to other medical professionals working hard to keep our health sector afloat? It is reported that Nigeria has only 80 cardiothoracic surgeons serving its 230 million people, and the Prof Eyo Ekpe is the only one in Akwa Ibom State. Let us learn to do better. Let us condemn and eschew the rascality and disorderliness that have continued to characterise some of our public offices and bring in civility in the discharge of our duties. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

Fellow Nigerians, good morning. I woke up this morning after my church service with a deeply reflective heart, and despite every constraint, I felt compelled to share these thoughts with you. Many people do not truly understand the silent pains some of us carry daily—the private struggles, emotional burdens, and quiet battles we face while trying to survive and serve sincerely in difficult circumstances. We now live in an environment that has become increasingly toxic, where the very system that should protect and create opportunities for decent living often works against the people—a society where intimidation, insecurity, endless scrutiny, and discouragement have become normal. More painful is when some of those you associate with, believing you would find understanding and solidarity among them, become part of the pressure you face. Some who publicly identify with you privately distance themselves or join in unfair criticism. We live in a society where humility is mistaken for weakness, respect is seen as a lack of courage, and compassion is treated as foolishness—a system where treating people equally is questioned simply because you refuse to worship status, tribe, class, or power. Personally, I have never looked down on anyone except to uplift them. I have never used privilege, position, or resources to oppress others, intimidate the weak, or make people feel small. To me, leadership has always been about service, sacrifice, and helping others rise. Let me state clearly: my decision to leave the ADC is not because our highly respected Chairman, Senator David Mark, treated me badly, nor because my leader and elder brother, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, or any other respected leaders did anything personally wrong to me. I will continue to respect them. However, the same Nigerian state and its agents that created unnecessary crises and hostility within the Labour Party that forced me to leave now appear to be finding their way into the ADC, with endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division, instead of focusing on deeper national problems and playing politics built more on control and exclusion than on service and nation-building. Even within spaces where one labours sincerely, one is sometimes treated like an outsider in one’s own home. You and your team become easy targets for every failure, frustration, or misunderstanding, as though honest contribution has become a favour being tolerated rather than appreciated. And when you choose to leave so that those you are leaving can have peace, and you step out into the cold, you are still maligned and your character is questioned. Despite all your efforts to continue working for a better Nigeria and engaging people with sincerity and goodwill, those who do not wish you well continue to attack your character and question your intentions. There are moments I ask God in prayer: Why is doing the right thing often misconstrued as wrongdoing in our country? Why is integrity not valued? Why is the prudent management of resources, especially when invested in critical areas like education and healthcare, wrongly labelled as stinginess? Why are humility and obedience to the rule of law often taken to be weakness rather than discipline? Let me assure all that I am not desperate to be President, Vice President, or Senate President. I am desperate to see a society that can console a mother whose child has been kidnapped or killed while going to school or work. I am desperate to see a Nigeria where people will not live in IDP camps but in their homes. I am desperate for a country where Nigerian citizens do not go to bed hungry, not knowing where their next meal will come from. Yet, despite everything, I remain resolute. I firmly believe that Nigeria can still become a country with competent leadership based on justice, compassion, and equal opportunity for all. A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO

This is the exact scenario the policy ignores. Your one lifetime BVN change is meant for situations like yours. But the bank process is deliberately difficult.. physical visits, affidavits, multiple verification layers omooo e go dey tiring... Practical fix right now is go to any branch with your BVN, valid ID and a formal written complaint addressed to the branch manager specifically citing CBN's consumer dispute resolution framework. That language forces escalation. The system won't fix itself. You have to pressure it correctly.

The new CBN BVN rule has a loophole nobody is talking about. Starting May 1, you can only change your BVN phone number once in your lifetime. The goal is to stop SIM swap fraud. Smart move actually. The problem: telcos recycle numbers. MTN confirmed it... any line with zero activity for 360 days gets deactivated, then reassigned to someone else. So here's the scenario: You buy a new SIM. Activate it. Try to link it to your BVN. Discover the previous owner already used their one permitted change. You're now permanently locked out. Not because of fraud. Not because of you. Because someone you've never met once changed their number. FIJ already reported that recycled SIM cards regularly still carry the previous owner's BVN and bank alerts. Technext documented people buying fresh MTN lines and immediately receiving UBA transaction alerts from strangers. CBN didn't sync this rule with how telcos actually operate. That's the gap. Data protection lawyers have already sued the CBN to strike this rule down. The Federal High Court in Kaduna has the case. The bigger issue is...your phone number was never yours. It's NCC property, leased to a telco, temporarily assigned to you and can be taken and resold the moment you go quiet for a year. Tie your banking identity to something that permanent and this is what happens.

It’s honestly hilarious. I have zero political value. Just doing my part to make the country better. We do the chess project in at least 25 countries around the world. Was received by the president of my own country for breaking the world record and making the Nigeria proud. That’s it really and the crash out has been monumental. It’s all noise anyway. I just feel pity for the naive ones.
Oo Nwoye@OoTheNigerian

I don't need to hold brief for @Tunde_OD. If / when I have any misgivings, I discuss with him privately. The question is: Whats the upside of attacking Tunde? For the sake of argument, Tunde joins APC today. And so? Then what? "I knew he was APC". Aaand? What's the end goal? If Tunde is a politician today, then he's bad at it. 2027 is reminding me of PDP 2019. They used the prior 4 years to shame and intimidate anyone who had buyers remorse post 2015 election. Millions of people who would have switched to PDP in 2019 either stayed put or remained neutral. "I need to prove..." Like I always say, sometimes it's better to be wise to be right.
