@restisc0nfetti @cfuchstv Really great thread! I think this pairs nicely with Cecilia’s post. You both speak about the lack of BIPOC representation in LGBTQ+ spaces. I really appreciate your explanations on the tropes and how harmful these misrepresentations are to the lesbian community.

There is a lack of lesbian representation in media. Specifically, a lack of diverse and accurate representation. There needs to be more of it to combat the underrepresentation & inaccurate portrayals that doom lesbians to awful tropes & harmful stereotypes. @cfuchstv #304F23

@MaynardMar25163 @cfuchstv This was really interesting to read. I never finished this show, so I never understood it until now! This makes perfect sense. I think you’ve made a really nice connection between Wanda and the escapism sitcoms supply. Nice job!

Wanda Vision and the Safety of Sitcoms: Wanda & Vision, a power couple in the Marvel Universe set the backdrop for this eerie dark comedy series which highlights the important role of the American sitcom. So... Let's talk about WANDAVISON! @cfuchstv and #304F23

@gmustudentsays I think your point falls in line with other opinions people have regarding the industry. They are so focused on keeping things the same because it brings them money. I think we are all interested in an industry that will start creating again instead of recycling. Great job!

Hopefully these shows will help Hollywood realize that dinosaurs are far more fascinating when presented with scientific accuracy and respect.

@cece_304 @cfuchstv Hi, Cecilia! You’re so right. The white LGBTQ+ experience is the one that is predominantly shown and advertised. There are many other communities that have their own LGBTQ+ experiences that deserve a voice. Thank you for speaking on this!

The complexities + nuances of the POC queer experience, specifically for queer Arabs, is one that deserves acknowledgment. Movies like CARAMEL (2007) and Cousins (2023), film festivals like Queer Cinema for Palestine, & shows like BBC's Juice are proof of this. @cfuchstv #304F23

Media often overlooks marginalized identities, especially intersectional ones like being queer and Arab. The white LGBTQ+ experience is used as an encompassing meter for what all queer experiences are like, which only forsakes queer POC narratives entirely. @cfuchstv #304F23

@robin_ferrara Hi, Roberto! This was a really interesting read. I think it speaks volumes about how your mind works. This was very grounding. I think it’s so easy to get swept up in something because it feels good. But, like you said, it’s important to remember whats right.

Exploring the stories of women and girls who are experiencing hard times is something that I wish to do in my own work. But for a man to take these experiences and saturate them with the male gaze and grotesque sexualization because it adheres to an artistic choice is…gross.

When thinking about his show, Euphoria, it is filled with underage sex. There have been shows and movies that depict underage sex as well. However, these teenagers (played by adults) are shown to be completely naked and the sex is very explicity shown.

I have seen the actresses involved say that Sam is really kind and understanding of their boundaries. While that is nice, his artistic vision completely nullifies that defense. The fact that he has these grotesque visions of women and asks them to perform them is the issue.

He oversexualized Lily Rose Depp’s character. Instead of commenting on the negative experiences women in the industry face, it became some sort of sexual escapade that did nothing to help solve the issues women face.

When news of “The Idol” arose, I was immediately excited. The proposed narrative was one that I knew would be healing and validating for a lot of women. To see what Sam Levinson’s artistic choices turned the idea into was appalling.

As an aspiring female filmmaker, I love when female narratives are explored and shown through film and tv. It builds community among viewers through relating to shared experiences of the characters. As a little girl I looked up to these characters and wanted to embody them.

@geniusbrainDAN @cfuchstv #304F23 there is a lottttt of material on ppl hating on taylor swift just for being a woman who successfully profits from her experiences
Brittani@blueeeskies

@markjburton2 @jackston65 @ThatEricAlper Because she's a woman. No one says Eminem "manipulated" his way into the HoF. It's because women, especially musicians that are women, have been villainized for being talented. Look at the hate for taylor swift because she sings about her experiences. vs men country artists.

@restisc0nfetti @cfuchstv #304F23 Alissa, please look into this film to help support your essay!!! Lesbian women (in love) are so highly sexualized all the time within films. This film simply expresses their love story … it’s so well done.
