@MattWalshBlog The Biden administration and the current Trump administration aren’t the same government. Your argument might be true if these two were maybe both apples worth comparing but they’re not. Not even close. I trust President Trump completely on the issue of Iran.

I acknowledge that the government has access to all kinds of information that I don’t have. They could have reasons for doing what they’re doing that I don’t know about or understand. But that is also the exact argument we heard during COVID, when all of the people with more information chose a course of action that was disastrous for the country, and we still haven’t recovered. I understand that this is a different situation. Maybe the outcome will be different too. But you have to understand that the “trust the experts” logic died with COVID and it’s never coming back. From now on and forever more the experts will need to make their case clearly and coherently, explain exactly what they’re doing and why they’re doing it and what the end game is and what information justifies whatever course of action they’ve chosen. Just simply trusting that they have it all under control is not going to work anymore. At least for those of us with a memory that stretches back farther than last week.

Minneapolis is a sanctuary city. Minnesota is a sanctuary state. And even together, these self-declared statuses do not supersede federal law. On January 31, Federal Judge Katherine Menendez refused to issue a preliminary injunction against the federal government’s immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota, stating clearly that federal immigration law applies in Minnesota just as it does in every other state. In other words, Minnesota is no exception to the law. The entire concept of “sanctuary,” as it turns out, is largely performative—revealing, as the saying goes, that the emperor has no clothes. The court’s rebuke quickly forced Minnesota’s governor to provide what Tom Homan described as “unprecedented cooperation,” resulting in the deployment of hundreds of federal agents. This marked a major—major—win for President Trump’s immigration agenda. Sanctuary cities and sanctuary states, it must be said plainly, mean nothing in the face of federal law. The status is symbolic. The protection is illusory. Over time, Minnesota and Minneapolis constructed in their own minds a modern-day “fortress”—a belief that they were somehow shielded from federal authority. This explains their aggressive resistance to immigration enforcement, including efforts to interfere with and undermine ICE operations. They believed their sanctuary designation was real. It is not. Now, faced with the reality that “sanctuary” offers no legal exemption, state and city leaders have no choice but to comply. Operation Metro Surge is neither unconstitutional nor a violation of states’ rights. Tim Walz, Jacob Frey, Ilhan Omar, and Amy Klobuchar were simply wrong. These are also the same leaders who were willing to sacrifice public safety to maintain the illusion. Sanctuary cities originated in the 1970s, with Berkeley, California, widely recognized as the first. Until around 2000, there were fewer than a dozen nationwide. According to FAIR Research, the number of jurisdictions claiming sanctuary status now exceeds 1,000—an increase of roughly 8,200 percent over the past 25 years. Sanctuary policies primarily serve ideological agendas. While the specifics vary, common traits include soft-on-crime policies and open defiance of federal immigration law. These jurisdictions publicly declare that long-standing federal statutes will not be enforced within their boundaries, predictably drawing illegal immigrants in disproportionate numbers. When cities announce that their law enforcement agencies will not cooperate with federal authorities, that ICE detainers will be ignored, and that immigration status will not be questioned, they are doing three things simultaneously: 1.Making promises they have no legal authority to make 2.Creating direct conflict with the federal government 3.Establishing a powerful magnet not only for workers seeking opportunity, but also for gangs, drug and sex traffickers, career criminals, and organized networks that understand how to exploit weak and fragmented systems This outcome is not hypothetical. It is inevitable. President Trump has warned repeatedly that the ultimate victims of these policies are law-abiding citizens—the very people government is supposed to protect. At the same time, massive federal and state funding streams flow into these jurisdictions, creating what can only be described as a migration-driven industrial complex—one that incentivizes sustaining the crisis rather than solving it.

ICE wasn’t looking for Alex Pretti or Renee Good. Alex and Renee were looking for ICE. They wanted a confrontation. Both would still be alive today had they stayed home and let ICE conduct their business. Very simple. But that is not what they were told to do. Tim Walz is not calling for peace or being honest at all with Minnesotans. For example, why would Tim say ICE is illegitimate law enforcement when it is or encourage the people to insert themselves in the middle of an ICE operation? How do you think some people will interpret that? Tim knows how. He and Jacob Frey know very well that people will definitely respond, bring more than just their phones, and do more than just record. They know this is potentially putting their own people in harms way. This is what dictators do. This is a conscious and malicious effort to increase violence and chaos. What happened to Renee Good and Alex Pretti is unfortunate but it is because they have been led to believe that disrupting law enforcement operations is an honorable and patriotic thing to do when it is not. Tim Walz and Jacob Frey are cowards. They are corrupt. They are wolves in sheep clothing.
