Honored and inspired! We're thrilled to announce that our Co-founder and CEO, @Sellahb has been recognized as a COP29 Impact Maker by COP29 High-Level Champion Nigar Arpadarai. In an incredible tribute, Sellah’s portrait is displayed in an artistic painting at the Impact Makers exhibit, showcasing leaders making strides in climate action worldwide. If you’re attending COP29 in Baku, make sure to visit the Blue Zone to see Sellah’s portrait alongside other remarkable global leaders. This recognition amplifies Jacob’s Ladder Africa’s commitment to empowering youth and building a sustainable future for Africa. #COP29 #ImpactMakers @Bilha_Ndirangu @ACAProgramme @ASBELKEMBOI7 @PeterKariukiKE @ASBELKEMBOI7

This morning, I spoke with two doctors in Dhaka. Both of them mentioned that due to limited means of communication, they are struggling to arrange blood for the injured and critically injured protesters. The blood banks in Dhaka are almost empty. Because of the curfew and ongoing clashes, donors from around Dhaka are unable to come. The shortage of required blood has led to many deaths. All hospital staff have come forward to donate blood, but the supply is inadequate compared to the demand.

Constituents have contacted me alarmed at the Bangladeshi government's response to student protests. 100+ people have been killed and a communications blackout and curfew have been imposed. The Bangladeshi government must uphold the right to protest and stop the killing.

BANGLADESH 🇧🇩 : The Government must immediately overturn the curfew with a ‘shoot on sight’ order that grants excessive powers to the security forces. The curfew must be urgently lifted, and all the people detained or arrested solely for exercising their right to protest peacefully should be immediately and unconditionally released. The authorities are obligated under international law to always exercise restraint and use no more force than is strictly necessary, proportionate and lawful in response to any escalation they may face. #SaveBangaldeshiStudents #ProtectTheProtest

BANGLADESH 🇧🇩: The rising death toll is a shocking indictment of the absolute intolerance shown by the Bangladeshi authorities to protest and dissent. The unlawful force used against protesters shows a callous disregard for the right to life and an abject failure by law enforcement officials to uphold their obligations under domestic and international human rights law. The law enforcement agencies must immediately end their unlawful use of lethal force against protesters and ensure that the right of people to peaceful assembly is guaranteed in law and practice. #ProtectTheProtest #SaveBangladeshiStudents Read more: amnesty.org/en/latest/news…

What we're seeing is a potentially major shift in the American labor market. We saw it with labor market tightness, leading to wage hike at the bottom. Now we're seeing union strength we've not seen in a long time. ft.com/content/f0c340…

So tired of these Schengen visa appointments and their so-called policy fiasco! Missed two talks this year already; going to miss another in November and January. I'm done with this Schengen visa BS. Total waste of money and time! Academia is for people with strong passports!
