@SandyofCthulhu Even WW2 is a gross oversimplification. They lost because they and Germany played strategic Rock/Paper/Scissors and Germany did the right move. Thousands of French soldiers fought the invasion bitterly but were undone by commanders at the top. Hot take: The Brits did even worse.

France suffers from this because of their poor performance in WW2. To be fair, if not for the Channel, Britain would absolutely have been overrun as well. As the "history guy" at Ensemble Studios I had to constantly fight against the "haw haw France always surrenders" jokesters. It helped that France before the Crimean War was pretty redoubtable. I'd point out that France fought all of Europe for 20 years under Napoleon, and for 14 years under Louix XIV. So that's obviously not a wimp. I insisted that we do Joan of Arc in Age 2, in part as an antidote to the fact that Americans who've heard of the Hundred Years War usually only hear about Crecy and Agincourt because Britain harps endlessly about those, rather than Castillon, Patay, or Formigny which were disasters for the British. But yeah there's a reasy why for almost 200 years every single war in Europe was based on stopping France from conquering everyone else.

The trope that France has a poor history of fighting wars is complete rubbish.

Let’s be precise. Millions of Canadians are not paid 12 million dollars a year to lead a company that is legally bound by the Official Languages Act. That standard exists for a reason. It comes with the job. It is not optional. Framing this as a struggle of “ordinary Canadians versus elites” is simply not grounded in reality. In Ottawa, the vast majority of deputy ministers are Anglophone. In cabinet, francophone ministers have often presented in English. I do not recall many, if any, Anglophone ministers presenting in French. The imbalance you are pointing to is not where you suggest it is. This is not about sidelining anyone. It is about leadership and responsibility. Mr. Rousseau has lived in Quebec for two decades. His spouse is francophone. He leads a national carrier subject to federal law. He publicly committed years ago to learning French. After hundreds of hours of tutoring, in a moment that required dignity and respect, he could not deliver even a few sentences in the language of one of the victims and their family. That is not about control. That is about priority. And let’s be honest about the lived reality of this country. Francophones who move into majority Anglophone environments adapt quickly because they must. They do not have the luxury of opting out. That expectation has never been controversial. Yet when the expectation is reversed at the highest levels of leadership, it suddenly becomes a debate about fairness. It is not. Canada made a foundational choice. Two official languages. Not one and a half. Not when convenient. Not when it is easy. In moments of tragedy, language is not a technicality. It is how you show respect. It is how you honour people. It is how you lead. Reducing this to a question of control or elite pressure misses the point entirely and risks turning a matter of basic respect into an unnecessary division.

Mr. Rousseau is expressing what millions of Canadians who don’t know french and have tried to learn it feel. What I am tired of is that a few elites (in Ontario primarily) get to tell the 80% of Canadians who don’t speak french fluently that we need to sit on the sidelines. It’s time for a conversation about what 2 official languages actually means. What’s transpired over the last few days is not about the communication or language but about control.

I am the Ukrainian skeleton racer who was wrongfully disqualified from the Olympics last month because of my “Memory Helmet.” Tonight in Milano-Cortina, the Paralympic Games are opening. The Committee has bizarrely permitted Russian soldier-athletes to participate under the Russian flag. The head of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) literally stated that they don’t care about what Russian soldiers did in Ukraine. The problem is that we do care. They are killing Ukrainians on the battlefield, bombing our cities, and committing genocide. Now, with this step of allowing them to compete, the IPC is giving them the opportunity to continue committing genocide by spreading Russian narratives with Russian flags and symbols. They try to manipulate the situation by pointing out that the movement started after World War II, but during World War II the Olympic Games were cancelled, and German athletes were not invited and did not take part in the Games until 1952. It looks like the head of the IPC doesn’t know the history of the Olympic and Paralympic movement at all. What a shame. This whole story is just getting worse and worse.

@MatthewScott___ @StGeorgesPlat Retail investors might not jump on it right away as total volume for the duration of piloting effort won't exceed 50 tons. however, the data obtained helps gathering more support from governments & mining & recycling companies. Definitely encouraged by @NRCan support. $sx $sxoof

@maikan5 Will having Voltrinov discharge these higher risk batteries provide improved processing and/or lower costs for the EVSX operation? How will this material compare value wise to the batteries directly received from C2R?

More expertise & better footprint in Québec. More capacity for mid range battery chemistry without the workload of diagnostic - discharging - dismantling This is also a lot more tonnage capacity with a chemistry that is also ton for ton a prime target for processing $sx $sxoof

@maikan5 4. How do the economics of these batteries compare to the ones were are currently processing? Or more specifically, the ones whose processing was represented on the most recent financials?

@robertpeacock22 Confidential contracts limit this answer. But a day shift of these with nonhic up and good processing rate is in range with what you are comparing it to and that's just on the front end.

@robertpeacock22 Perfect scenario would be that batteries get there 1st. Some loads also diverted over time All depend on batterie types, makes and location Outside repurposing, better margins are with the lithium battery types A month of this kind of production & the year is could be profitable

@maikan5 3. Are there opportunities for transport efficiencies here? Truck brings batteries QC -> ON, swaps them for blackmass which goes ON -> QC?

AI just saved me ~4 hours of driving on my vacation i was planning a trip to the Grand Canyon and noticed the driving route was incredibly inefficient i spun up a few claude code agents and used agentic ai to find this faster route it will take me just a few minutes to drive, compared to 4 hours if anyone has contacts at the US government lmk - happy to relay this to them

President Donald J. Trump announces that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be decertifying Bombardier Global Expresses, and all other aircraft made in Canada, until Canada certifies the Gulfstream 500, 600, 700, and 800 Business Jets produced in the United States. Additionally, Trump states that if the issue is not immediately corrected, he will impose a 50% on all Canadian aircraft sold in the United States.
