A colleague just discovered this photo of a staff picnic for one of the predecessor newspapers to the @MaineVillager and now we need to recreate it. The mustache in the top right, who definitely knew how to fisticuffs, was a retired schooner captain who wrote for the paper.

@aseitzwald @DemFromCT @MaineVillager Not in close proximity at all. Sea captains all along the coast during that era. Hall was a common surname. Search Penobscot Marine Museum for ships & their names, etc.

@DemFromCT @MaineVillager That could describe several captains, lol. I know this one had a cottage in Spruce Head, but it's possible he also had a house in Searsport, though I would guess that was a bit too far in those days.

Mills withdrawal in Maine underlines two points: -Platner is a force w Dems and has run a strong campaign in a state w an uber high-information Dem primary electorate. They know about his past comments, they just don’t care bc there’s something bigger going on Which raises point two -Mills was a stand-in for Biden and Schumer in the months after the disaster that was 2024 and she shouldered their sins. Her numbers are strong as gov but Maine Dems wanted a bigger and more emphatic change, which Platner embodies It’s a statewide but it reminds me of those 2018 big-city primaries. Dem primary voters unseated or chased out older Dems - Capuano, Crowley, Lipsinki - partly as an expression of deeper frustration at their party for losing to Trump

@atrupar They are hiding a very serious health condition. The swollen ankles, swollen fingers, drooping face, constantly falling asleep in the midst of groups of people. He has congestive heart failure. I've seen it before. My Mom and my Grandma both died from it.🤷
