This should be a much bigger story: Pete Hegseth is lying about what the families of fallen American soldiers are saying about this illegal war. It’s disturbing how easily these people lie, and how rarely the media holds them accountable.
Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1

BREAKING NBC: Pete Hegseth says 'family after family' of service members killed urged the admin to "not stop until the job is done." But the father of one of those service members says he never said that. "I can't speak for the other families. When he spoke to me, that was not something we talked about." nbcnews.com/politics/donal…

4 things are true: 1) The President has so much money going into these systems and so much bad policy it’s going to get worse 2) he has better instincts than many around him 3) Trump more popular than trumpism 4) this is—read the article!—still acting like its a comms problem

@SangerNYT David, the U.S. was more than just informed of the strike. The White House knew about it and gave a green light, per U.S. and Israeli officials. The U.S. and Israeli strategies and goals are definitely different, but the strike on the gas facility is not a good example for that

Searchlight did an extraordinary job with this polling. This is not an easy issue to test, and this is an excellent resource for candidates and the public. I was deeply saddened by a lot of the results. But harsh truths are still truths. It’s critical to know where the American public is at on these things so we can figure out the best path forward on codifying protections on anti-discrimination/safety, persuading the public, and determining the most effective strategic path forward in advancing the cause of trans rights.

We just published a year's worth of polling on transgender rights and acceptance in America. Voters across both parties express a consistent preference for equal treatment of trans people in public life and the workplace. We also find broad support for protecting trans people from discrimination and for ensuring that adults have access to the health care they need. That said, Americans hold conservative attitudes where certain policies related to gender identity and trans rights are concerned. The findings reveal the need for a reset in trans advocacy, public education, and policy development. searchlightinstitute.org/research/the-p…

"The Strait of Hormuz will become a source of geopolitical risk for a long time — a live wire down the middle of the global economy...From now on traders will act based on the knowledge that Iran might at any time attack." My column this week - framing here is Iran, but I also discuss the SAVE Act and the common narrative that 80+% of voters want voter ID. They do! But that's not all that the SAVE Act does, which makes for tricky polling.
National Journal@nationaljournal

Polling on Iran generally showed considerable variation in the first week of the war, depending on which pollsters conducted it and what wording they used. @nataliemj10 with the latest Leading Indicators (unlocked): buff.ly/ZsifqSA

That is the true source of the Senate’s dysfunction. Not a Democratic filibuster or Republicans’ aggressive tactics. The Senate doesn’t work when senators don’t want to work.

Whether you want the SAVE America act to pass or fail, you should be concerned about what’s happening in the Senate. Both sides argue passionately for their position. But neither side appears to want to actually prevail. All are content with blaming one another for their inaction

@DemFromCT I try to leave the reason to others. My goal is to help people understand what’s happening in Congress so they can determine for themselves the reason why it’s happening.

The SAVE America Act has stalled after 3 days of Senate debate. Republicans can't get 60 votes for cloture. Thune says a talking filibuster is "too risky." But there's a clear procedural path to a final vote — and it's already in the Senate rules. 🧵

@jameswallner I can clearly muster an argument that the SAVE act is not popular and doesn’t generate political pressure on Democrats. A photo ID bill or even a better citizen proof bill might (devil is in the details) but THIS bill aint it Appreciate your posts, as always!!

@DemFromCT Republicans’ problem right now isn’t procedural, it’s cultural. How they manage the Senate is making it harder for them to advance a bill they want to pass. That suggests they all don’t want to pass it or they don’t know how to do it any other way.

Legal appeals are normal. What's actually insane is that when someone wins their case, and an immigration judge grants asylum, the government can still arrest the asylee, detain them, and appeal the decision. It's like if the government got to retry a case after an acquittal.
Oilfield Rando@Oilfield_Rando

Our asylum laws are so insane that after an immigration judge finally gets around to denying a clearly fraudulent asylum claim years later, the asylum applicant can APPEAL THE DECISION! Our asylum laws are outdated insanity that must be abolished.

@DemFromCT That’s the beauty of a talking filibuster, it literally elevates the issue, attracts attention, invites people into the debate, and shifts the balance of power one way or the other. I haven’t yet written my piece about how Democrats can make breaking a talking filibuster harder.
