#TryThisTuesday
Help students develop strategies.
Then help them develop intuition about when to use which.
Which strategy would you choose and why?

Happy reading! Yes this book is about the importance of teaching All kids grade level standards! It focuses on moving from remediation to acceleration for learning recovery by making sure Everyone gets grade level material!

I'm so excited to receive this brand new book from @drnickimath. It's important to note that this is about how to get kids back on track after pandemic-related struggles, not traditional acceleration where it's a race to Calculus. Check it out!

Reflection Time!
How do you use instructional routines in you classroom? How might you incorporate them into your lessons?
How has your math thinking been enhanced as a result of engaging in relational thinking?

@pwharris @hjpell @rimtamath @NHTM1964 @VCTMath @ATMIM_Updates @atomic_math @ATMNEmath I love this! I have been doing choral counts with our fraction unit and having the clap each time we get to a whole. I will have to try this when we come back from break!

@mainemath @hjpell @rimtamath @NHTM1964 @VCTMath @ATMIM_Updates @atomic_math @ATMNEmath Good point! Decomposing fractions is important. We like to play "I Have, You Need" with totals 10, 100, 1000, but you can also play total 1, like "I have 4/5, you need ___ to make 1"

The Relational Thinking routine helps students understand equivalence and become more comfortable with relational strategies. #ATMNEchat @rimtamath @NHTM1964 @VCTMath @ATMIM_Updates @atomic_math @ATMNEmath

@hjpell @rimtamath @NHTM1964 @VCTMath @ATMIM_Updates @atomic_math @ATMNEmath I also did that! I think it's super important for students to decompose fractions just as much as whole numbers.
English

@mainemath @rimtamath @NHTM1964 @VCTMath @ATMIM_Updates @atomic_math @ATMNEmath I would take 1/8 from 1/4 to make 4. Then I can do 4 + 1/8.
