California’s 9th Congressional District apparently isn’t sending their brightest to Congress. Last week, @RepJoshHarder tried scoring cheap political points attacking our great HHS @SecKennedy, asking RFK Jr. to defend against Harder’s bogus claim that EPA was doubling the amount of mercury pollution (100% untrue!). He even called Secretary Kennedy a coward for not recognizing and being able to explain the fictitious numbers Harder was so confidently peddling. The problem, of course, was that Harder’s numbers were make-believe fairy dust.   This afternoon, Harder tried pulling that same garbage on me and walked into a buzz saw. First off, he had no clue the Biden rule he was defending hadn’t even taken effect yet, and when I pressed him using the official numbers developed through the rulemaking process, and asked him where his make-believe numbers were coming from, all he could muster was that they come from some mysterious source somewhere in the community.

Nothing infuriates an uninformed Congressional Dem more than when they realize they voluntarily triggered a debate with someone who actually knows what they are talking about, reads federal statute and adheres to Supreme Court precedent. Today’s self-implosion by @rosadelauro was quite remarkable to witness. Without apology or regret, I will always adhere to the best available reading of federal statute pursuant to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Loper Bright.

Both of these things remain true. The year is 1972. Your doctor prescribes Valium. Britain is in the grip of a benzodiazepine wave that will last two decades. The dependency risk is known internally. It is not shared. Your doctor is not lying to you. He was not told either. The year is 1999. Your doctor prescribes Vioxx for your arthritis. It is newer than ibuprofen, well-tolerated, and Merck has a study showing it works. Merck also has internal data suggesting it roughly doubles the risk of heart attack. This data will not reach your doctor for four more years. Fifty thousand people are estimated to have died in the interim. Merck eventually settles for 4.85 billion dollars. No criminal charges are brought. The year is 2002. Your doctor prescribes OxyContin. Purdue Pharma trained its sales representatives to tell doctors the addiction risk was less than one percent. That figure came from a letter, not a study. The letter was about patients with terminal cancer on short-term doses in hospital settings. Your doctor is a GP with a patient who has a bad back. Nobody draws a distinction. Nobody is required to. The year is 2008. Your doctor checks your cholesterol. Your LDL is elevated. You are prescribed a statin. Nobody mentions that the number needed to treat for primary prevention is approximately 250. Nobody mentions that the muscle deterioration you'll notice over the next two years is listed as a rare side effect rather than a documented pattern affecting a meaningful percentage of patients. The trial that informed the prescription was funded by the manufacturer. Now it is today. Your doctor has new guidelines. New studies. New consensus. He is confident. He has always been confident. The confidence has never been the problem. The confidence is, in fact, precisely the problem.

Dr. Roger Seheult just revealed one of the biggest studies on sunlight. A massive Swedish study followed 30,000 women for over 20 years and found that those who actively sought sun exposure had dramatically lower death rates from cancer, heart disease, and all causes. The shocking part? Sun avoiders had roughly double the overall mortality. Even heavy smokers who got plenty of sun had similar death rates to non-smokers who avoided it. JUST IN: Brentwood Police say 'Reacher' star Alan Ritchson acted in self-defense, say no charges will be filed. The development comes as new footage appears to show Ritchson's neighbor blocking the road while he was on his motorcycle. "After reviewing available evidence, including video footage and witness statements, authorities determined that no criminal charges will be pursued," said the Brentwood Police Department. Colorado just reported that 10,000 students have been pulled out of public school to homeschool. This is happening all over the country, and the crazy thing, in my anecdotal experience as the homeschool guy, so many of the parents are public school teachers. Makes you think.
