@Iberian_America @Uber_Support I had this happen to me one time. It took 24 hours for my account to fix itself and the order to close out so I could use the app again.

Yeah, I've heard of that scam but never had it happen to me thankfully. Good thing the cops helped, I've been told they're not the most reliable. If you hang around Larcomar, you will get quite a few scammers trying to approach you if you're a foreigner. I've had it happen to me 3 times. They won't ask for money, they'll just want to talk but eventually they'll try to get something out of you with some bs.

Almost got scammed on my birthday in Lima, Peru... Morning walk, guy approaches me with a child on his shoulder sleeping asking "puedes ayudarme" I immediately hit him with my usual "no cambio, no dinero" No senor solo leche, solo leche Okay it's just milk not begging for cash.. No problem.. It's my birthday. I'm in a good mood. And weirdly during that moment, a Bible verse I'd read 2 days earlier popped into my head "Blessed are those who have regard for the weak, the Lord delivers them in times of trouble.” (for context, i've opened the Bible maybe twice in 10 years, both times in the last 3 weeks) Sure.. I'll buy the kid some milk or formula and it will be my good deed for the day He insists on two formulas... He's showing me photos of his son, his ID,telling me how old he is, that they are from cusco etc.. Lady is grabbing them and ringing them up, i notice her energy and body language is a little off during this moment she rings it up 380 soles... Nearly $200 USD Instantly i say no " no no me lo compro", Absolutely not... I don't have kids so i think they are in on it together at this point, because that seems expensive as hell.. I go back and forth with the lady pointing out smaller formulas asking for price and we settle on a smaller one for 60 soles (i checked prices on pedidosya after and they were similar prices, so she wasn't in on it) At this point my guard is up tho, keeping my hands in my pockets not taking my wallet or phone out but hell its just formula.. how could they scam me from that? As the pharmacist is going to grab the smaller formula i turn around and the guy is slowly backing out of the store walking across the street Suddenly the store is surrounded by 4 cops They ask me if i speak spanish or english and proceed to pull out the translate and explain the situation to me They explain it's a known scam. They target foreigners, use their kids as bait, then likely return the formula for cash or sell it to another tienda or pharmacy Either way.. Close call i guess Shoutout to Lima PD for actually being on it, recognizing it, explaining the situation, and trying to keep the cities shankes like myself safe from the snakes 😂 first time in 16 months of travel I've come close to getting "knowingly" scammed For one, i rarely ever hand out cash to beggars or homeless, i actually almost always ignore them and don't make eye contact but today i felt in a giving mood I kept thinking after what told me to do it this time The bible verse?? Is God trying to tell me something? Or just testing me.. I felt safe the entire time and have felt the same way throughout the first 10 days in the city BUT If it helps any others Drop the Lima scams you know below so people can know what's up before they visit

@hispanicnomad I was in Asuncion for a month and Paraguayans are some of the friendliest people I've ever met. I just wish the city had more to do cause I found it pretty boring after a couple of weeks.

Particularly if you try to enter any of these countries illegally I could tell you SO many horror stories of Latinos in Spain who get there as a tourist, leaving their whole life behind... And then can't work, can't make money, can't rent a house, can't open a bank account They end up living in tiny rooms with no windows, working odd jobs illegally, saving zero money and basically eating rice and pasta every day Sometimes even with their kids in tow
BowTiedColombia 🇨🇴🌞@BowTiedColombia

Latinos think that migrating to the USA, Canada, or Spain will change their lives, but it’s not true. They barely earn enough to get by in low-quality jobs. It’s better to learn English and earn remotely from their own countries

@hispanicnomad That's wild to me that 5k will give you 6 months of runway In Thailand. I've been thinking about visiting and still can't believe how far the dollar goes there.

Q: How much money do I need saved before I can leave? Depends where you're going Thailand/Vietnam/Colombia: $3K-$5K gives you 3-6 months runway Portugal/Spain/Bali: $5K-$8K for the same runway Expensive cities: don't go there first I left with €1K. Was it smart? No. Did it work? Yes. Would I recommend $3K minimum? Yes →

@bold_perception I know gringo pricing is super common in latam but it really was on another level when I was in the dominican republic. Worse still cause it's not even like their customer service is any good.

Called a clinic near my building in Juan Dolio 🇩🇴 Kept asking what building I’m staying in Then quoted me some absurd price for a simple procedure Called a clinic in nearby local city San Pedro. Got the real price, 1/10 what the other clinic quoted Called back original clinic to ask why price gouge me that bad, 3x 5x isn’t enough ? they said they aren’t authorized to give the real price to me because I’m a tourist and that I stay in said building lol She also said depending on the building, the price changes too. Mind you, this isn’t for at home service, I still would need to go to the clinic. Just based off how nice your building is what they charge you. 3rd world living 😁

Visiting Argentina for the first time and had a road rage incident where an Argentinian smashed my rental with his car a bunch of times. The police actually threatened me to not file a report or they would charge me as well. What a fkn country, don't even know what to say. I'm guessing he paid them off.

The worst thing about Americans moving to other countries is when they bring their racial grievance politics bs with them. They are insufferable and it comes across as incredibly fake/performative when you make a video like this. You don't actually care, you just want to be seen as not part of the "problem".

I always find funny how those who hate gringos living in CDMX exaggerate how poor the locals are Especially with comments I've seen recently that go like: "If you're spending 10 to 15 dollars for something, that is too expensive for most locals and only tourists get to enjoy that" Which just isn't true Having eaten at plenty of fancier restaurants, quite often more than half of the clients there were Mexican And while minimum wage in Mexico is shit, there's plenty who make more than minimum wage and where a 10 dollar purchase isn't as high as portrayed It's like these people are really trying to portray every Mexican as some dirt eating impoverished local living in an indigenous village of Chiapas Really -- your average Mexican struggles to pay 10 to 15 bucks? Putting aside the dollar amounts, the other thing here is the mentality that says you have to feel guilty for enjoying nice things others can't Fuck them. If someone else can't afford a luxury (a trip to Pujol), that's their problem And it's not like every poor Mexican is actually dreaming of eating at Pujol or drinking at Departamento Most don't even think about those experiences Does that mean there's no class envy in Mexico? No, there is. And many of the comments you find online reminding foreigners how their expat life is nicer than what most locals have is derived from just that: class envy It's broke ass locals crying that you got in good in their country while spending very little and they got to live in a shithole in Iztapalapa I again don't feel any sympathy for people like this. You're a loser if you spend your days crying about people having money. The last thing that should be said is that obviously the lady in the video is just pandering to a social media point to make herself look better Her concern for how locals can't afford these nice experiences comes off as fake when she probably will never 100% commit to living like a local At most, she'll take a trip to a taqueria in Mixcoac or something But we both know she ain't going to live like the poor locals on 300 bucks a month She'll continue to live in Condesa. Eat and drink at the spots loved by expats And that's OK Nothing wrong with enjoying the nice life while poor people struggle elsewhere. Your time dining at Pujol won't change their reality and quite often your money is well appreciated by those in the tourism industry And let's be real, if she did venture into living in the dangerous barrios of Iztapalapa or wherever, she'd still be criticized as gentrifying I've seen just that -- expats getting that "authentic" experience and bitches still bitching In the end, you can't satisfy the poor locals who are most resentful of you having it easy Fuck them and go live life

@Iberianamerica I thought paraguay was super underwhelming compared to the hype it receives on x. Good place if you don't want any distractions I guess. The only place I'd visit ate the old jesuit ruins near Encarnación.
