The kind of environmental destruction Maharashtra is seeing now, we’ve never seen before. From what I hear, the 500 mw Khaparkheda power plant has started disposing fly ash at Nandgaon again. This is an unscientific ash pond, without any care taken whatsoever. No lagoon, no HDPE lining, nothing that is required. This is a clear violation of all norms of environmental safety and fly ash disposal. Urging the @CPCB_OFFICIAL to look into this crime. It’s polluting farms, water bodies and the Pench river! Also, why isn’t the Government using this fly ash for free in its concrete road projects? Or auction it. During the MVA govt, in capacity of being a minister, I had banned fly ash disposal in such ash ponds. We had cleaned up almost 80% of the ash pond, restoring the degraded land that was buried under 7 feet ash spread over almost 800 acres. Now this is back and the Central Pollution Control Board needs to step in, punish the guilty and ensure this doesn’t happen again. The locals are worried, about their health and have no voice! @moefcc
