Lindsey Graham came from humble beginnings and became one of the most powerful lawmakers in the most powerful nation on Earth. His story was a fundamentally American one. Early in my Senate tenure, I remember getting into a shouting match with Lindsey about a Ukraine funding bill at lunch and then learning the very next day that he was pushing rail legislation I really cared about behind the scenes. That was Lindsey Graham. He fought like hell for the things he believed in, and he was just as willing to go to bat for you when it counted. Lindsey had the best sense of humor in the Senate. He loved the game of politics. He was constantly asking which races were up and down, and how he could help. As he liked to say, “I don't care if you're an isolationist or a religious fanatic, so long as you have an R next to your name, I want you to win.” We certainly had our disagreements. But I couldn't help but like him. A one of a kind figure in our politics. I'll be praying for him and his family.

@thepolicyhoe @sone_do_mujhe It’s not comparable because abroad the carrying capacity is much higher than the load, and there’s always space to sit. If they had India’s population, we don’t know how it would be

@sone_do_mujhe I really can't argue against this absolutely asinine take. You are treating the Delhi metro as your own personal good and if you have a no regards for public decorum mentality then nothing can be really said here. Peace.

Why does Delhi metro prohibits passengers from sitting on floor of coaches? If someone is dead tired/metro is crowded, how can u prevent someone from sitting there? What harm will it cause to anyone if sitting person doesn't cause any obstruction?

Now that my daughter’s birthday is coming to an end and I am back home, I can respond to this properly. The problem with woke people (and they come in all shades of opinion) is that they must slot, stereotype and label people in coloured chambers they have created. No diversions are acceptable to them. Everything, they feel, fits definitions of the world that they have conjured. I am done with such people a long time ago. In one tweet that was a response to my daughter’s wish that I make breakfast on her birthday, this lady @devinamehra 1. Took my statement full of plain humility (“I don’t know how to make anything”) and slotted me in her stereotypes; 2. For effect, she added by herself that I don’t know what is found where in my kitchen) 3. She quickly slotted me among “entitled Indian men” 4. She also assumed that I am among those who share “oppressed by wife” jokes on WhatsApp. What nonsense. I know that my cooking stories since my school days are a joke in my family. I am the laughing stock for once having made pulao for guests as a student without washing or peeling the potatoes (I know, I know 🙄). But I am sorry Madam, I don’t fit the stereotype you are throwing at me. Gender roles were reversed very early in our family. Our mother used to spend time running our village school in rural UP and our father brought up me and my brother in Nainital. He used to cook every day and we used to assist him with anything from kneading flour to cleaning utensils. No big deal. Hundreds of millions do it. But I am not a foodie. I don’t cook. My wife doesn’t. For decades, my late mother didn’t. Did we all know how to cook? Of course! Did we cook every day or even regularly? No! We were busy with other things. Our family has been madly driven with trying to do socially productive missions to a degree that it seems foolish now. Food was cooked by those who were much better at it than us. “You don’t cook? You are privileged!” Is that your moral judgement about me? Of course I am privileged. The women and men in our family did not have to go through cooking as a job, as millions of homemakers sadly do, as a compulsion — as against cooking as a passion. But it’s a privilege that helped us achieve more things in life for us and mostly for others. You know nothing about my life, my views on women and their journeys, thousands of our stories about strong inspiring women characters, my world view — and I don’t give a damn about you or people who judge people on the basis of their cooking skills or your own woke benchmarks. Don’t slot me into your narrative and your stereotypes, because I have for years through our stories fought the very idea of women being confined to kitchens and unable to achieve self-actualisation. But I am not one of those men from the WhatsApp groups you slotted me in. Don’t you bring your stereotypes anywhere near me.
Devina Mehra@devinamehra

Only an Indian middle aged man will say proudly that he doesn't know how to make anything or know wherw anything in the kitchen is... That too one supposedly living a slow life The entitlement of Indian men is another level And usually they are the ones making the 'oppressed by wife' jokes on WhatsApp Not cool!

He looks like a child that has been controlled by his parents, more than what Siya claims that her parents control her. The biggest culprit is his father that he never let his child adopt to modernity and search for love outside of India. Never teach him that how bad woman that has been told to be Sati Savitri can be anyways.

Ketan's hair was fine. He spoke normally without a stutter. Look at how he and his entire family were happy with the wedding. Nobody knew Siya Hippo would push him from the mountain.

A bigger realisation is that Siya Goel wasn't financially independent. She hadn't even passed 12th class. If she was financially independent, she could just have chosen the life she wanted and not be dependent on her parents. Reminder that financial independence gives autonomy

@arya_amsha At a population of 145 crore, surely few outliers exist who can play fifa level. Accounting for health diet etc, there are maybe 10 crore who’d qualify. From there, maybe 1-10 lakh could theoretically play at fifa level We just need to find 50 good ones from those 1 crore

Indians are genetically incapable of being good at endurance/athletic sprinting based sports. That’s the reason India won’t play at FIFA WC. Should focus on strength-based sports, have a good chance of being decent there.

Siya Goyal is a soulless psycho. All attempts to intellectualise her crime, infantilise her as ‘young’ or paint her as a trapped victim are a cop-out. No amount of context justifies what she did.

Ppl have provided all kinds of more nuanced cultural, economic reasons. But she is not talking about people like y'all lol. She is talking abt people like me- who couldn't convince anyone to choose them despite none of the external factors. And yes I will concede thats a red flag

Well she has better employment prospects than 99.5% eng grads. also unless it’s a core role no one gives a jack about your major. Enough LSR english girlies at MBB because they did the right internships and went to the best bschool. pedigree> degree. always.

Had a talk with one of friend (IIM Shillong pass out last year) English majors 999 profile still had no shortlists in SIP. Luckily got into Bandhan Bank in placements. 97 percentile helped him into IIM but humanities play a really little value for companies
