I had no idea about the existence of Lahori Zeera, but after watching the terrific new ad by the agency Enormous, not only do I know it exists, but I also have a tremendous urge to try it out 😀 The ad's narrative is an old trope of showing a lot of people being the product's users/customers. But it is the creative device that truly stands out by stretching advertising exaggeration to its limits and beyond, enough to make it truly preposterous and memorable! Even within the exaggeration, some of the creative choices are wonderfully whimsical. Like that guy trying to wear the t-shirt. Also, the guy being recognized in his photograph only after he starts drinking. And the last shot of a class photo where everyone is drinking 😂 On that note, I did expect the patient drinking Lahori Zeera too, at 0:51 😏 The dry tone in which the final announcement occurs, and that truly catchy line, 'Har Koi Peera, Lahori Zeera' (that cleverly bends 'Pee Raha Hai' to its catchy shorter version - 'Peera') both significantly accentuate the ad's overall appeal! In context, when Tata Namak was trying to show that everyone and their uncle and aunty were singing the Tata Namak jingle, it felt out of place. Why? Because, every single person is not a decision-maker or buyer of salt, a mere ingredient. It is chosen and bought by a select few, while consumed by all in indirect form. So, to see everyone celebrating a jingle for salt seemed like stretching advertising exaggeration in the opposite direction of the product truth. But with Lahori Zeera, the exaggeration is stretched in the right direction because anyone and everyone can be a decision-maker and user of this product, a ready-to-consume product with the product clearly being picked up by choice. #advertising #marketing #creative #creativity
