Got my estimate from #agfood on @agriculture_ie estimates of habitat level in farm. 22%, bit more than I thought. Not bad for a derogatory farm in #westcork. I reckon that a lot of the farms in @CarberyGroup & @LisavairdCo area will exceed the 10% level.

A few points on growing red clover silage. Mix contains 5kgs red clover and 8kgs ryegrass. The latest varieties have lower growing points making it suitable for grazing.

Top tip for farmers out there. Check your insurance policies to ensure your policy allows for the increased value of fuel, fertiliser, feed etc. on farm.

Every year we see this. Safety first. Take care of yourselves. Calving is a very dangerous time.

@GillwallyO @willpenrievans Silage plastic works well for the hedge but not great from an environmental point of view. I know Catherine Kenna has been trialing some black compostable film, not sure if commercially available though

@willpenrievans Silage plastic or compostable film has been recommended here - anyone tried that?? We are planting in Feb & I would love to have something that worked well. Handweeded new hedge plants the past 2 yrs but a lot of work in it

@Cow785 @Germinal_Ire @DLF_IRL @Goldcrop Know a couple farmers who tried it around Timoleague. One gone on well with it, didn’t last long for the other. Needs dry ground as will not tolerate compaction. Headlands were first to disappear where I saw it due to machinery turning.
