@martsarge

Realised that we do actually need to start being a bit nicer to each other.

Each to their own, but why can’t people just lose weight naturally by sticking to a healthy diet and exercising rather taking an Ozempic jab?

@leembroad That’s as I read it. I get why some people are disappointed about not getting what they thought they would now, but to read it, it makes it look as if money is being stolen from a pension pot and a further attack on officers. Thanks for clarifying, a friend is in that position.

@martsarge They haven’t changed the rules, the re-valuation has been a feature for some time. An no, your annual pension amount has not changed. Just the commutation rates for the lump sum if you opt to commute a portion of your annual pension

A clear, non hyperbolic and factual assessment of the routine police pension scheme valuation. On 19 May 2026, HM Treasury increased the SCAPE discount rate to CPI + 2.0%, triggering an immediate recalculation of GAD commutation factors for the 1987 Police Pension Scheme. On 21 May 2026, these new factors took effect, reducing lump sums for 1987‑scheme retirees by approximately 5% for the same amount of pension commuted. Annual pension income is unchanged. The 2006 and 2015 schemes are unaffected. The PolicePay article provides a detailed, regulation‑accurate explanation of these changes. Give it a read… don’t go marching up @PFEW_HQ hyperbolic hill as the march back down will be embarrassing… again! policepay.co.uk/officers/pensi…
Lee Broadbent@leembroad

Un-necessary hyperbole and maybe if you hadn’t been asleep at the wheel you could have provided earlier communication to the membership. The schemes are re-valued every 4 years and it’s not uncommon that the contribution rates and/or scape rates are adjusted. There’s been adjustments at the last two reviews - why would this be any different? You also have a seat on the pension schemes advisory board… you can’t honestly say these things aren’t covered/discussed? The threat of legal action is utter nonsense - but your failings are continually mounting so I guess this kind of membership manipulation is to become standard practise - like the ballot on industrial rights. #BreakTheMonopoly

@TheDesKelly Half a story. Get it correct and don’t resort to name calling because you don’t agree. Why do you need to add the last bit? Can’t you get your point across without that? Brexit was negative to my life, but democracy won. Surely the most important bit?

To the miserable person on the train to BTM this morning who shouted at my daughter for “talking in the quiet carriage” I hope you had a horrible day in Bristol. Thanks to the off duty @GWRHelp staff who stood up instantly and said “Quiet carriage, not silent carriage.” 1\

At my local McDonald's they don't have a cashier because they want everyone using the touch screen terminals or app. Yesterday, a Gen X guy came up. "I just wanna order a black coffee." The McDonald's girl is up to her ears in drive-thru orders, but she sighs and comes over. "Okay, I can ring you up." "YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY'RE DOING. They're trying to replace you, automate your jobs. That's why I won't use the screen. I'm trying to help you." "Okay sir." She gives him the coffee.

Black TV Presenter says she "can never win" Scarlette Douglas says she has to “work twice as hard because I’m wanted twice as less” as a black woman in TV. The 39-year-old A Place in the Sun presenter told the Daily Mail she feels she can “never win” in the industry. She said: “I’ve always felt that I’ve walked into a room, and instantly, there’s that kind of air of, ‘oh, they’re not gonna be that good’… I have to work twice as hard because I’m wanted twice as less.” Scarlette, who also appeared on I’m A Celebrity in 2022, added that black women are judged far more harshly than other minorities when they speak up labelled “angry black woman” with a “chip on her shoulder,” while similar behaviour from others is seen as “fiery.” She says using her platform to call out unconscious bias is necessary “to make a positive change,” even though she used to be too scared to speak out. Thoughts?

Football should bring people together, not shut them out. For the first time since the competition began, fans won’t be able to watch the Champions League final for free. That’s not right. This is bigger than wanting to watch Arsenal in this historic final. It’s bigger than one club. Hardworking people shouldn’t have to fork out for a subscription to watch this match. I urge TNT Sports to reconsider and make the final next Saturday free to watch.

@Budgetdog_ Massive appeal if it was the same price. For me, get on the plane, sit in the middle seat if I have to . Earphones in, travel tablets taken and sleep. Wake up, eat nice sandwiches and drink from the airport Agree with you.

I’ve never flown first class and I really don’t see the appeal. It doesn’t even look much different. I’m not going to eat/drink on the plane anyway. There’s a bit more leg room which is certainly somewhat appealing but not the difference of first class and economy appealing. What am I missing?

@ick_real If that person is in a supermarket and can’t afford the cheapest loaf of bread or half a dozen eggs it begs the question why are they there. Is there anything they can put back to be able to afford it? I would then.

Growing up in South East London, the Heygate Estate was a byword for urban failure. Ugly. Crumbling. Crime-ridden. Look at it now. Torn down, rebuilt, and transformed into somewhere people genuinely want to live. But it is far too expensive and far too slow to do this in urban areas. Planning costs, land accumulation, remediation, sometimes hundreds of millions before a spade goes in the ground. That is why development keeps getting pushed onto the green belt. We need to fix that, we need to make it quicker, easier and cheaper to regenerate our towns and cities, and build on brownfield land, so that tired, neglected parts of Britain can become great places to live again.
