"Most successes are unhappy. That's why they are successes -- they have to reassure themselves about themselves by achieving something that the world will notice... The happy people are failures because they are on such good terms with themselves that they don't give a damn."

⭕️ WSJ: UAE carried out dozens of secret airstrikes on Iran during war and after ceasefire 🔹The United Arab Emirates secretly carried out on Iran from the early days of the war through the day after the ceasefire was announced — a far deeper military role than previously reported, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the matter. 🔹 Israel and the U.S. provided intelligence on the strikes, which targeted Qush and Abu Musa islands in the Strait of Hormuz, the port city of Bandar Abbas, Lavan Island’s oil refinery, and the Asaluyeh petrochemical complex, according to the report. 🔹 The UAE has not publicly acknowledged the strikes. But the story was amplified Friday by Abdulkhaleq Abdulla, a prominent Emirati political scientist and informal adviser to UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, who appeared to admit the UAE’s involvement was “deeper than was previously known.” He also rejected that UAE was acting as a forward operating base for Israel, saying the nation was defending itself.

🔺BREAKING: Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament and the country’s lead negotiator in indirect talks with the U.S., posted a warning Friday as negotiations over a potential deal continue: “1. We do not obtain concessions through negotiations. We obtain them with our missiles. Negotiations only make them understand that. 2. We have no trust in guarantees or promises, only in actions. We will not take any step before the other side acts first. 3. The winner of any agreement is the one who is better prepared for war the next day.” The post aligns with what an Iranian official told Drop Site’s Jeremy Scahill on Thursday — that while a final draft MOU exists, Iran has “zero trust” in Trump or the U.S. and cannot rule out further strikes, and will not consider “Trump’s decision as definitively finalized until the financial markets close at the end of this week.” Ghalibaf, a former IRGC general who was re-elected as parliament speaker this week with 235 votes, has emerged as one of Iran’s most powerful figures during the war and leads Tehran’s strategic engagement with Washington.

The oil market has historically and routinely overreacted to geopolitical headlines that never manifested into actual supply shocks Now it's overreacting to negotiation headlines that haven't yet done anything to ameliorate our current ACTUAL historic supply shock Consistency.

This will ruin your day, perhaps your summer, or even the rest of your life. But you need to listen to it. You need to know the crimes that are done in your name and with your tax money. A British surgeon in Gaza testifies that Israeli soldiers used Palestinian children as target practice. One day, they would shoot the children in the testicles, and on other days, in their necks. They were practicing their shooting on children.

🎥 At the 2026 Munk Debate, Stephen Walt, one of the world’s leading scholars of international relations and a leading advocate of realist foreign policy, challenged the idea that powerful countries can use military force to remake the world in their own image. Walt warned that rather than making the world safer, such crusades often leave societies becoming “more like the monsters you were trying to change than they had become like you.”

⭕️ Exxon Senior Vice President Neil Chapman warned Thursday: “Commercial inventories of crude oil, of liquids, think petroleum, gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, they’ve all run down... We’re approaching unheard of inventory levels. I mean, really, really low levels. You can debate whether that’s going to hit those really low levels in two weeks or three weeks. Once you get to that point, then you’ll see price shoot up. I mean, I think dated Brent, most people, well, a model would say dated Brent will shoot up. Once you get to that really low inventory level, up to $150, $160. The models would tell you that. And then what happens is when the price gets to a certain level, demand destruction brings it back into balance. Prices go so high, it becomes unaffordable. And that’s what happens. And so we’re at that level right now. And I think crude being in this sort of $90 to $110 for the last whatever it is, six weeks, has really been mitigated by running down inventories. It can’t last forever.“

We are ~9 million bbls away from hitting a storage level that's the equivalent of living paycheck to paycheck for gasoline and distillate. Once we get there, even a minor disruption (any sort of outage) will result in gasoline lines at gas stations. I guess we are really doing this.

Israel spent 2 years running an elaborate lobbying campaign to have Hamas added to this UN sex-abuse blacklist, making the case that the UN designation was thorough, evidence-based and widely respected, which was why it was so important for them to get Hamas added to it. Now that Israel has been added to it, they say the whole thing is a sham.
Israel Foreign Ministry@IsraelMFA

The shameful and absurd UN decision to include Israeli entities in the annex to the CRSV report is further proof of the UN’s true nature: a politicized and corrupt organization that has abandoned its founding principles and systematically targets Israel as its primary mission. This decision is yet another example of the UN’s long-standing, institutionalized hostility toward Israel. Today’s decision must be understood in its true context: an attempt to create a fake symmetry between Israel and the real sexual atrocities committed by Hamas. This is its sole motivation. The person behind this farce is @AntonioGuterres. This is the same Guterres who sought to "contextualize" the October 7 massacre, who covered up the involvement of UN employees in those atrocities, and who has dragged the UN to its lowest point. Guterres is now exploiting his final months as Secretary-General to fabricate baseless accusations against Israel, completely devoid of any factual merit. Israel has comprehensively, thoroughly, and unequivocally refuted these allegations. Given that António Guterres has chosen to violate every standard of honesty, integrity, and professionalism, Israel has decided to sever all ties with the Secretary-General’s Office and will wait until a new UN Secretary-General is appointed.

Should we be trying to weaken autocrats like Putin? Mearsheimer: "The sad fact is that in international politics, minor powers have to pay really serious attention to what Great Powers think, and what Great Powers believe their interests are. Am I happy about the fact that this is the way the world works? Absolutely not." I think liberals really hate hearing this, because they have an idea about how the world is, how it ought to be, and how people ought to behave in it. The problem is that others often have ideas about how the world is, how it ought to be, and how to behave in it, and the ideas of others will often conflict with your own. Instead of accommodating themselves to this fact, McFaul and company want to recreate the world according to how they think it ought to look like. What this means practically is killing millions of people. Mearsheimer isn't a foaming Putin apologist. He's the only one advocating for Ukraine to not commit suicide.
