Aquinas has an interesting theory about why Jesus's inscription (title) was written in Aramaic, Latin, and Greek (John 19:20).
He says each language shows how Christ will rule over theology (Hebrew), politics (Latin), and philosophy (Greek).

Seems to me if you label the CREC not part of the true church, you have to throw out Augustine (whom you appreciate) along with 80% of church history.
This is important because one of the key issues in our time is brothers casually anathematizing one another.
This is unChristian, uncharitable, and playing directly into the Enemy's hands. We should demand better from ourselves.

So, I'll paste my comment below in hopes of a clarification. 👇 ------------ Sir, you shared a quote from Augustine right beneath criticizing the CREC as not having real churches. One of your premises for that criticism is what you believe to be an errant view of the sacraments. My question: How can you promote Augustine when he erred (according to your own view) even more severely on the sacraments? He believed in paedocommunion because he thought it was necessary for the infant's salvation. "If, therefore, as so many and such divine witnesses agree, neither salvation nor eternal life can be hoped for by any man without baptism and the Lord's body and blood, it is vain to promise these blessings to infants without them." Lands as inconsistent and, frankly, ungracious. Glad to be corrected here if I've missed something. Thanks.
