The incident in Minnesota is tragic and we all mourn the senseless loss of life — but this video reinforces several important points: 1) it is critically important to allow the investigation to unfold before jumping to conclusions — something very few people seem to understand; 2) everyone has the right to protest, but they should not interfere with law enforcement, ever — especially using their vehicle to try and block them from doing their job; 3) when asked by law enforcement to obey an order, do so; 4) the deceased and her spouse were clearly provoking and escalating the situation; 5) she sought to drive off and accelerated quickly, hitting the officer with her car; 6) as we have since learned, the woman and her spouse blocked the road for 4 minutes before the incident and the officer in question had previously been hit and dragged by another car several months ago; 7) the body camera footage clearly shows how quickly the situation escalated and the split second the officer had to act; 8) finally, this was sadly inevitable, given how many people have taken it upon themselves to interfere with ICE and the enforcement of our federal immigration laws. Many of my colleagues have encouraged these protests, putting officers and the public in harms way. It doesn’t help anyone. What happened was a horrible tragedy, but too many people have sought to condemn the officer without all of the information and this video clearly contradicts the breathless coverage and condemnation from many on the left and in the media. Let the process play out and for God’s sake — do not interfere with law enforcement.

Love that the movie’s xenonite isn’t one solid cast piece but looks printed or even knitted together. It gives it such an alien, handmade vibe.

I am opposed to any effort, by the courts or through Congress, to overturn Obergefell and the right to same-sex marriage. The court should uphold its prior decision and ensure legal protections for those married couples. If they don’t, Congress must act. apnews.com/article/suprem…

Mike, first of all, I've carried two pregnancies to term, exactly two more than you have, so clearly I believe that to be an "option." I also had several miscarriages, so I know firsthand the importance of medically accurate information and care. Secondly, if you care so much about pregnant women and babies, maybe you shouldn't have voted to gut Medicaid, which covers 40% of births, and defund Planned Parenthood, which provides primary and preventive care to women of reproductive age. Maybe worry a little less about an organization being sued for potentially life-threatening fraud and a little more about the women in our district who are about to see their healthcare premiums triple or lose coverage altogether.

@ScientistsLift I also have a tablet (Samsung Galaxy tab with the Kindle app installed). I'm rereading the ASoIAF series on it at night before bed while listening to the Expanse series on audiobook. If you get a tablet install the Libby app. You can get free digital books from your library

@math_vet I love me a good autobiography but I think I have to discover what I enjoy again. An audiobook sounds nice but I’m thinking about getting a tablet and downloading books

I have the desire to read actual books again. Not scientific journals or textbooks but novels 😩

Side note: getting very efficient at using Word's equation builder. Having to do math by hand (it's how I learn) and then typing into word is the ONLY part where I've been like "ok maybe the kids who use chatgpt to cheat are onto something"

When I told myself "hey I'll do a math heavy masters program no problem. I'm good at math!" I didn't anticipate using my entire weekend teaching myself something called the Gauss-Jordan theorem or wondering what the fuck a Markov chain is. (Niche tweet, sorry)
