Before we break for summer wanted to share some of the fantastic resources the Maths department @HenleyBankHigh have created: Happy to share!
1) Methods Books - Our shared approach to teaching concepts, with clearly labelled steps to help staff with modelling: #mathscpdchat
Does anyone know of a list (or a way to filter search results) of UK universities that offer a Maths degree course, where further maths is not a requirement?
Also, where the grade criteria are slightly lower than the typical A*AA type of offer, for the "mid-cohort" students?
@m_chiles Adults in chaotic schools make deals, look away, collude with rude children. Rude children grow in confidence. Feel invincible. Adult authority shrinks. Child authority, often capricious, selfish and prone to bullying & cruelty, grows.
In the past, I’ve been told to
“F**k off” for upholding a school mobile policy
I’ve been barged (twice) by the same student for upholding a school uniform policy.
I was told by a senior leader I was more consistent in applying the school policy compared to them.
Systems and routines are key to successful schools and they have to be followed consistently by ALL.
Letting a student off or turning the other way can have a big impact on other staff.
Visible leadership is also crucial to support the systems and routines.
@ColbyJackie@m_chiles Is your point to not have rules? Because otherwise I don’t see the link to the OP. There will be underlying reasons for behaviours, but if there are systems, they should be followed by all.
@m_chiles Have any of you ever stopped to think why children & young people are behaving in a certain way? Ever wondered why a child’s consistently late? Asked yourself what may be happening at home for a child who always flouts uniform rules? Considered why a child is confrontational?
What a shambles #NHS
Helping my parents. They got an appointment on Friday. Midnight? Really?
But letter then says this isn’t the appointment and they’ve got to call to make one. Very confusing for them.
And difficult when they struggle to hear.
#NHS - do better
Matt and Tilly were out of the room, I was getting myles to sleep and realised there was a power cut. Everything then happened so quickly.
The fire was at the front door and we were still told to relax and enjoy our holiday. Not by a rep, by reception. Then all of a sudden ..1/2
@mathsmuse It then concludes that given a line you can determine equation by working out m and c. Then it’s stuck. The other is good once fluency and depth of understanding is there
@mathsmuse I think because at GCSE you’re first teaching what a gradient is and the relationship of that to the general equation. So if you’re exploring multiple lines and work out gradients you conclude the value of gradient is m. Same for y intercept.
@JamesGAyling@fesshole What service does a landlord provide above and beyond that of buying a home? And I don't mean in theory, I mean actually provide?
Meanwhile landlords pay less for the house because they can claim back some of the interest payment as a tax cut....
I'm an electrician, and I carry out electrical inspections of rental properties. I code faults on these properties very harshly, I want people hoarding houses to pay through the nose because my children are being priced out of home ownership in the city they grew up in
Does anyone know much about V Certs? Suitability for students? They seem technical and not a suitable alternative for low-prior attaining students as a simple alternative to GCSEs. This isn't a maths question, but wider curriculum chat. Can anyone help?
@missradders The only issue my school would have with band changes are that the language options are different in KS3, and the technology rotations may be repeated.
@missradders Cynical comment: Is there an agenda to build up an increased evidence base for more permanent exclusion? The school is showing they’ve done all they could to accommodate student which includes change of groups. If this fails does that give more ammunition…
@Trudgeteacher Nice question. I think depends on the function but I’m not actually sure. I would suggest, axes first, then sketch, then adjust if I’ve identified errors based on key coordinates.
Imagine a circle laid flat on a table, with a little spinner on it that you can flick. The circle is 80% red and 20% yellow, like a yellow pie slice.
You flick the spinner. It spins, and slowwwly stops.
Where did it land?
