I joined @pinkfloyd to raise money for charity last year. I’m aware some Floyd fans struggled with this release so here is my penny’s worth… I played keyboards on Hey Hey Rise Up and felt honoured to do so, as a Pink Floyd fan virtually all my life. When David Gilmour called me he asked how I would feel to join Pink Floyd and I said “you’re such an unsuccessful band, I don’t know…” In all seriousness, when he explained he wanted to raise money for a nation under attack, especially since Putin was literally threatening to use nuclear weapons at the time, I felt greatly honoured. I obviously did not believe I was literally joining Pink Floyd in playing keyboards on a charity single… I did, however, believe in what they were doing and it was a genuinely incredible and humbling experience for me to be in the same room and record on the same track as these legends. David calls it a Floyd track so I guess it is as he retains the rights as far as I’m aware. Remember, a band name is just a name. Don’t get too hung up on it. These are good people and incredible musicians doing something positive on a track that went to number one in 29 different countries and raised a fortune in sales… We all did it for no money. I was privileged to be part of it and make no apologies for pedants who worry it interfered with their idea of what PF is. It’s Gilmour, Mason and Pratt, for God’s sake. They’re brilliant and gave so much incredible music to all of us. #PinkFloyd

@thenitinsawhney I read these comments and I can’t believe ( well I guess I can!🤪) people would talk to anyone like this, let alone someone that writes music from the base of their heart and that only brings peace and amazing music to thousands. It baffles me. I’m glad you speak out. 🙏🏽🙏🏼

I have worked with @AshwinFlute for around 20 years now and he never fails to fill my soul with inspiration and beauty with every note… A true master… and also an incredible vocalist. Here he is playing on a track I recorded in Mumbai recently. #music #musicallife #india #mumbai

@thenitinsawhney I had been thinking about this too!The belief that following my creativity, writing music. from an early age, meant I was troubled -An artist!!This myth has halted me. Now I realise I was instinctively following something far more beautiful. I write more music now 🌸

I used to believe conflict, external and internal, was a fuel for creativity. I feel that’s the myth many of us in the music industry were sold… That self sabotage and hedonistic self loathing were every artist’s curse… and blessing. It’s taken me a lifetime to learn otherwise.
