Today marks the start of #BlackHistoryMonth! The U.S. dedicates February to remembering and honoring the sacrifices and contributions of Black Americans to diplomacy and America’s success.

I treasured my friendship with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the many messages we exchanged as “Arch” and “Maddy.” He was a man of wit and wisdom, who taught us that reconciliation is a more reliable remedy than revenge and that there is never a wrong time to speak up for freedom.

10 years ago today, the world lost an incomparable leader. Václav Havel devoted his life not only to pursuing democracy, but to using democracy to create a more just, humane and tolerant world. The best way for us to honor his memory is to carry on with this indispensable work.

But the challenges facing the world today can’t be solved by governments alone. That is why at #COP26 I was especially pleased by the launch of the @EnergyAlliance – an initiative led by @RockefellerFdn and @IKEAFoundation to help developing countries embrace renewable energy.

In Glasgow, the US helped launch a decade of action on climate. At the G20, we led the effort to negotiate a landmark global tax agreement that will stop a race to the bottom. @POTUS demonstrated on his European trip that America is back at the table and leading by example.
