Anyway here's a prediction you can throw in my face if I'm wrong. Shapiro, like Lieberman in 2004 and Hillary in 2008, is going to flop because he's so identified (correctly!) with the wrong side of an international issue the party base is righteously furious about.

The thing about Shapiro is he lies a lot. For instance, he keeps lying that he was the only Jew being vetted by the Harris team, even though Pritzker was also vetted and wasn't asked about being an Israeli agent (because he has never volunteered for the Israeli government)

Nick Field@nick_field90

In his book, Josh Shapiro claims his speech introducing the Harris-Walz ticket was improvised. Despite the teleprompters, and the papers on the podium, and his office announcing the remarks the previous day. It's a small claim that reveals a lot open.substack.com/pub/nickfield9…

Today marks FIVE YEARS since I started this spreadsheet cataloging the songs stuck in my head when I wake up in the morning. It's the closest thing to a journal I've ever had -

i'm sorry, i'm sorry, now that I have a reliable system for building these things I have about 200 different ideas for what to do. I'll figure out how to make a real playable game like this soon (to prevent me from tabbing away while it's thinking)

@ArmandDAngour Two options for the frame. 1. Steam-bent lathes in layers dried and then glued around a form. 2. Finding and working grain roughyly in this pattern, the manner of ships timbers in the 16th-18th century. Lathes more stable. How well does it close?

Éliane Radigue (1932-2026) It is with immense sadness that we learn of the passing of Éliane Radigue at the age of 94. A major figure in musical creation has left us. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and collaborators.

Byzantium was not boring! But the reason you don't hear about it much in America/Western Europe is that (for the most part) it was contained in Eastern Europe and the Middle East and was Orthodox instead of Catholic so was just "weird Eastern power" akin to the later Ottomans.
mike@mike_slugs

i've long wondered why nobody talks or thinks about the Byzantine Empire much even though it survived like 1,000 years after the fall of the western roman empire and after reading this book i've learned: they got really into christianity and got boring and weird

Last year I posted about how I always look at a polar clock reset for NYE. It's super satisfying and I recommend it. However, I always need to look for a polar clock to use each year, and none of them were super satisfying. So I made one. plrclk.com

Guy on an airpod phone call walked by me in the park saying “No no no no no no. It’s not the Vienna Philharmonic. I’m talking about the Vienna Staatsoper. The Philharmonic is a subset of the Staatsoper. No, this kind of drama would never happen at the Philharmonic. Anyway,”
