The thing about Shapiro is he lies a lot. For instance, he keeps lying that he was the only Jew being vetted by the Harris team, even though Pritzker was also vetted and wasn't asked about being an Israeli agent (because he has never volunteered for the Israeli government)

In his book, Josh Shapiro claims his speech introducing the Harris-Walz ticket was improvised. Despite the teleprompters, and the papers on the podium, and his office announcing the remarks the previous day. It's a small claim that reveals a lot open.substack.com/pub/nickfield9…

@DavidRobjant @ArmandDAngour (I was going to say the same) Looks like multiple layers steam-bent to me
English

@ArmandDAngour Two options for the frame. 1. Steam-bent lathes in layers dried and then glued around a form. 2. Finding and working grain roughyly in this pattern, the manner of ships timbers in the 16th-18th century. Lathes more stable. How well does it close?

@TheLincoln yeah the role the cultural politics of the Cold War played in this specifically is way underrated

Byzantium was not boring! But the reason you don't hear about it much in America/Western Europe is that (for the most part) it was contained in Eastern Europe and the Middle East and was Orthodox instead of Catholic so was just "weird Eastern power" akin to the later Ottomans.
mike@mike_slugs
i've long wondered why nobody talks or thinks about the Byzantine Empire much even though it survived like 1,000 years after the fall of the western roman empire and after reading this book i've learned: they got really into christianity and got boring and weird

Last year I posted about how I always look at a polar clock reset for NYE. It's super satisfying and I recommend it.
However, I always need to look for a polar clock to use each year, and none of them were super satisfying. So I made one.
