In parenting especially, but also in life more generally, making something A Thing seems to exacerbate and prolong its existence. Doctors and wise mothers have long known that often if you don't make a big Thing out of something, it will often just go away in a few weeks, or maybe it won't bother you anymore even if it's around, or maybe it was never a Thing to begin with. This article articulates this phenomenon very well.
