Four years on from Russia’s barbaric full-scale invasion of Ukraine, our message to the Ukrainian people is simple: Britain is with you.
Today we are stepping up military, humanitarian, and reconstruction support and we will support Ukraine for as long as it takes for a just and lasting peace.
Russia will not win this war.
Slava Ukraini.

60 years ago today, Jennie Lee set out a bold vision in her University of the Air White Paper that would become The Open University 🎓
From that moment, the idea of a University that welcomes everyone, whatever their background, began to take shape. Since then, millions of life changing journeys have started with the OU and we are just getting started.
As we celebrate 60 years of open learning, we remain committed to making education accessible to every community and every stage of life.

You can remove a flag, as at Stonewall; you can try to ignore history, as in Philadelphia; you can even try to humiliate people, as with racist tweets; but you can't erase people's innate human dignity. It can withstand anything. It is inalienable. nytimes.com/2026/02/10/us/…

For over a century, Fijian soldiers have travelled thousands of miles from home to serve this country. Today, they serve across the British Army, in all corners of the force. But it’s their natural qualities as soldiers - courage, resilience, discipline and an unbreakable sense of loyalty - that mark them out for the Infantry in particular. This is where they belong. This is where they thrive.
In the Welsh Guards, they are not attachments. They are not visitors.
They are family.
For the last 20 years, on operations in the Middle East and beyond, Fijian Guardsmen have been relied upon in battle, trusted without hesitation and respected without question. They are relentless workers, adaptable to any environment and utterly dependable when it matters most. These are men you trust with your life - and many of us have, time and time again. Some have earned the very highest awards for bravery on operations, not for glory, but for doing what needed to be done under fire.
They’ve embraced Welsh culture as their own - the pride, the standards, the banter and the stubborn refusal to quit. They wear the cap badge with absolute respect and defend it with everything they have. Many have laid down their lives protecting this great nation, far from home, bound not by geography but by brotherhood.
We are proud. Fiercely proud. And fiercely protective of our own.
They are not just Fijians serving with the Welsh Guards.
They are Fijian Welsh Guardsmen.
Our brothers in arms.
And we stand shoulder to shoulder with them - always.

The last time a skater backflipped during an Olympic competition was in 1998, when French skater and five-time European champion Surya Bonaly illegally performed the move during the women’s final.
“I was a pioneer,” Bonaly said. wapo.st/4a8rpdw

GPS pioneer and mathematician Gladys West has died. She was 95.
Her calculations helped produce extremely accurate modeling of the Earth's shape, laying the foundation for modern global positioning system technology.
West was born in rural Virginia during segregation. In 1956, she was hired as a computer programmer at a Navy base in Virginia, where she was one of only four Black employees.
Her work went largely unrecognized for years, though she was later acknowledged as one of the hidden figures of the era.
Despite being considered the mother of GPS, West said she still preferred using a paper map when driving.

France is committed to the sovereignty and independence of nations, in Europe and elsewhere. This guides our choices. It underpins our commitment to the United Nations and to its Charter.
It is on this basis that we support, and will continue to support Ukraine and that we have built a coalition of the willing for a robust and lasting peace, to defend these principles and our security.
It is also on this basis that we decided to take part in the exercise organized by Denmark in Greenland. We fully assume this decision, because security in the Arctic and at the outer edges of our Europe is at stake.
No intimidation or threat will influence us—neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world when we are confronted with such situations.
Tariff threats are unacceptable and have no place in this context. Europeans will respond in a united and coordinated manner should they be confirmed. We will ensure that European sovereignty is upheld.
It is in this spirit that I will engage with our European partners.

Our thoughts are with all our friends around the world who were affected by community violence this weekend. You are not alone.
When little ones hear about violent events on the news, it can be hard to help them understand and cope with what happened. Limiting media exposure and making space for them to express big feelings can help children feel safer and more secure.
