Mighty Quinn's BBQ sold to Wonder last week
they already own Grubhub, so here's the playbook they've been running:
create or acquire unique supply (iconic NYC brands) > drive demand > win the market > repeat
however, now the biggest digital food mall owner in NYC also owns the restaurants
so if you're one of those restaurants
1/ what happens when the mall owner starts owning the stores too?
2/ who lands at the top of the app, and who gets to see everyone else's sales?
Marc Lore loves a vertically integrated play to go against the bigger marketplaces in the space. (he did the same w/ his previous two companies)
my bet:
Wonder pulls its own brands off DoorDash and Uber Eats within a year
if the best BBQ in NYC only delivers on Grubhub, you open Grubhub
unique supply drives demand but only when it's exclusive to platform

This is a nice little cafe near where I used to live in SF. Everything was solid, nothing was great. But good enough for everyone nearby to use it as default spot to grab a sandwich, pizza, pastry, etc. DoorDash culture totally killed this and many like it as neighborhood spots.
