@WangNextDoor2 if the tax brackets had moved with inflation we wouldnt have a problem but the fiscal drag is so much now that comparatively we are still earning 2008 wages while paying 2026 prices... tax free allowance should be at £25k now, higher rate should start at £80k...

£50k in London is struggling. You can’t even afford to buy a small house on that. Probably not a flat either. So then most of your income is going on extortionate rent and bills. You couldn’t be able to save much, and certainly not living in luxury. £35k and you are actually broke. Arguably you can’t even live there on that. And this is our capital city. It’s becoming similarly true in other places too.
Lin Mei@linmeitalks

Do I live in a bubble ?? How is £35,000 in 2026 a GOOD salary? Is this a mindset thing? Are Brits living on happy shopper beans on toast, living in a single room? Or they must be living at home/ minimal bills. Do they not want more for themselves ?? Ambition and the desire to want a decent life is at an all time low in the U.K. 😟

Britain introduced stamp duty in 1694 to pay for a war with France. Worth every penny, by the way. Great war. The war ended three years later. We are now 329 years into the temporary measure. Absolutely barnstorming governance. Genuinely world-class. The tax now raises 1.3% of government revenue while destroying an estimated £10bn a year in economic value. It has frozen housing transactions at below half pre-2008 levels. It has left 37% of English workers stuck in jobs beneath their qualification level, the worst rate in the OECD. It suppresses wages. It suppresses labour mobility. It suppresses everything except house prices, which it quietly and lovingly protects. In 2020 the government suspended it and called that good economics. This April they put it back up because they needed the money. Same tax. Same economists telling them it’s catastrophic. Different party, identical conclusion. The maths has never once cared who’s in government. Remarkable that the politicians haven’t noticed. Read: gbtt.info/stamp-duty.html @GreatBritishTT

GBTT Special - Stamp Duty What started out as a way to fund war against the French ended up funding a war against our own young and upwardly mobile The tax raises 1.3% of government revenue and destroys an estimated £10 billion annually in economic value Any serious government would abolish it on day one gbtt.info/stamp-duty.html

Throwback to that one time I accidentally ran a study on myself and took 13x the recommended amount of creatine for 3 weeks straight without even realizing it Every week in the gym I was progressing like crazy. Squat was going up like never before and the fullness in my physique was unreal My training partner pulled me aside one day and said, “bro what are you doing at home? I’ve never seen you progress like this” Went home that day, was about to take my creatine and noticed the serving looked massive. Something was definitely off with the scooper but I just never cared enough to look Grabbed my scale to check 65 grams. Recommended dose was 5g a day. They must’ve thrown in a protein powder scooper by accident What a time that was 😭

This man was in the gym flexing his massive physique during a posing session. He’s shirtless and oiled up, hitting every classic pose from double biceps to side chest and turning to show off his back while other lifters stand around watching and filming. He looks completely confident and ripped the whole time. I give him props for building a body like that, would you ever get on stage and pose in front of a crowd like him?

If you wake up anxious before anything has happened, the worst possible thing you can do is the first thing almost every anxious person does every single morning. Drink coffee. Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors (which were trying to keep things calm). It stimulates additional cortisol release on top of a cortisol awakening response that's already misfiring. It depletes magnesium. It increases glutamate. Every single mechanism that's already making the morning terrible gets amplified by the one thing you reach for to "feel better." The morning dread itself has a specific biological explanation that has nothing to do with your life, your job, or your mental health. Normally cortisol spikes 30-45 minutes after waking. Sharp. Controlled. Brief. Mobilizes glucose, sharpens cognition, gets you moving. Then it drops. Alert but calm. When the HPA axis is dysregulated from chronic stress, poor sleep, or gut inflammation, that spike becomes exaggerated and prolonged. Instead of a clean spike and drop, cortisol floods and lingers. That flood drives norepinephrine and glutamate activity before the prefrontal cortex is fully online. Panic about nothing. Heart pounding at rest. Shallow breathing. A sense that something is deeply wrong before the day even starts. Meanwhile blood sugar crashed overnight. Liver glycogen depleted during poor sleep. The body is running on cortisol and adrenaline as primary fuel at 7am. The brain isn't anxious about life. It's in a metabolic emergency interpreting low fuel as existential threat. Then coffee hits. And everything gets worse. Why nobody catches it: standard cortisol tests are single-draw, usually mid-morning, usually "normal." The dysfunction is in the PATTERN not the absolute level. A DUTCH test or 4-point salivary cortisol reveals it. Almost nobody orders them. What actually fixes the morning dread: > Eat within 30-45 minutes of waking. Protein + carbs + salt. The body needs glucose and sodium to break the cortisol-adrenaline cycle > Cut caffeine for 2 weeks. Just long enough to see the real baseline. Most people are shocked by how different mornings feel > Magnesium before bed (400-600mg glycinate). Supports overnight cortisol clearance > Fix the gut inflammation driving HPA dysregulation upstream. The morning dread is a downstream symptom When cortisol normalizes, waking up feels... fine. No dread. No chest tightness. Just awake. That's not a fantasy. That's what normal cortisol function feels like. Most people just forgot. Full HPA axis repair protocol on my Substack. Link in bio.

Depression in men is often just: No gym No time outside Not enough sleep Poor diet Too much screen time No purpose Toxic relationships No time with family Do this instead: Wake up by 5–6 AM Go for a 50-minute walk Sleep 7–8 hours Eat clean (more protein and vitamins) Stop aimless scrolling Commit to a project that keeps you engaged Build a positive circle of friends Spend time with family as a man, staying indoors all day is one of the worst things for your mind. Go out, meet people, and build real connections. A man’s job is to face the world, take risks, and embrace challenges.

Popped into town. It’s a rare event these days because there’s nothing there worth buying. Little to my surprise, there’s another vape shop and a nail salon. I’m not joking, there are three kebab shops, three vape shops, six Turkish/Kurd barbers, I think two nail bars, and a couple of non-KFC chicken outlets. The rest of the high street is betting shops, charity shops and card shops. It happened so fast.

Estate agents tell me home buyers are as rare as a heterosexuals at the BBC due to the Iran war. Mortgage rates over the last month have risen from 4.83% to 5. 89% pushing prices even further down. Most folk who bought their house in the last six years are facing negative equity. Thank you Starmer.

Of all the probiotics out there, one obscure Japanese probiotic gets the least attention eliminate this probiotic from the gut-microbiome of rats and they quite literally become losers at an instant. essential for gene expression in the prefrontal cortex (through Butyrate)

If your inflammation is high, don't jump straight for the fish oil. Get yourself some Clostridium butyricum first. In a study of animal suffering from acute liver injury, Clostridium butyricum almost completely normalized inflammatory markers. I bet fish oil can't do that.

£26436.80 is the new min wage annual salary (40 hrs p/wk). And as the min wage rises, regular salaries don't. So many people will begin to ask themselves 'why am I working this highly stressful job that needed qualifications and a tonne of bullshit paperwork and police checks just to earn 5k more a year than I would stacking shelves at Lidl?'

People are barricaded in shops. Others are unable to get down the street. Why? Because this is the “Clapham youth” in London. They have stormed the high street and are looting shops. Does not seem like anyone is being arrested yet. Instead police stand and watch. You can guarantee that if they were a large group of white kids they would be arrested in minutes. This is not the first time they have done this in the last few days. Their behaviour is feral.

This is a big problem Care homes for dementia patients are charging around £2000 per week yet family carers are paid just £80 per week and are supposed to survive on that. A friend of mine quit his job to care for his parents and received the equivalent. He explained that if they’d paid him £1000 a month he could have managed. Consequently, he returned to work and now the council pays over £6000 a month to a care agency. The care his parents receive is substandard and the carers are brought in from abroad. So, what’s the actual cost to the country? Family carers feel worthless and are treated that way .. the system is broken
