On January 6th I followed the crowd into the Capitol and shouted. Police stood by the whole time, hanging out with us and sometimes directing us places. At one point near the House Chambers I was walking downstairs when a trio of some special section, secret service looking men started pointing guns in my direction. Confused and annoyed, I walked the other way and when I saw a normal police officer asked him why they were doing that. He informed me a protestor (Ashli Babbit) had been killed, and advised me to leave the building. I walked towards the exit and after a short rest on the bench I left. I harmed nobody and damaged no property that day and complied with all police orders. What I received for that was a pre-dawn raid at my parents house, where my 1 month post-partum wife and I were staying, on Biden's first day in office. His DOJ had signed the order to arrest me 3 hours after his inauguration. In the subsequent weeks I received death threats online and harassing phone calls, something that would be ongoing for the next few years. I was banned from Meta and Paypal. My wife and I were both debanked by PNC and banned from Airbnb. My wife was detained at the airport for hours with our newborn daughter. I was charged with 4 misdemeanors and the 1512 unconstitutional felony. The government offered to drop the misdemeanors if I pled to the felony. The felony was a lie, so I refused and went to trial. At trial the prosecution for 2 days straight was allowed to show footage to the jury of things that occurred around the Capitol I wasn't present for "for context." When we asked to put forward footage that contradicted the prosecution's "context" we were not allowed. They could show what they wanted, we could not. Police officers were then put on the stand for the next 2 days who cried about their experiences. I had no idea who they were. They admitted they never saw me or interacted with me. Nevertheless like every other J6er, I lost, and was sentenced to 4 years and $22k in fines and restitution. Yet even after the Supreme Court overturned the felony, the judge would not let me out until my misdemeanor sentences of a year were maxed out. Because she can't count she actually kept me in longer - to the extent she intervened at the last minute to make the prison release me on a Sunday, something that is against BOP rules. My family sat outside the prison gates the Friday before practically the whole day waiting in vain because of this pettiness. But the government wasn't satisfied with their pound of flesh: after my release they took me back in for resentencing, to attempt to have me resentenced after the fact to my misdemeanors consecutively, so I'd be taken from my family again and have another 1.5 years behind bars. This time I won, as they had no legal precedent and it skirted on violating double jeopardy since I had served my full prison time. Even still, it cast a cloud over the holidays and cost me another 20k my family couldn't afford. People ask whether prison was bad, and yeah of course prison sucked. It was a hard and violent place. I was present for a stabbing, and was lucky to avoid two fights and a race war. But dealing with Biden's DOJ and the DC Judiciary was the real trauma - they would grind down your spirit by weaponizing the legal system and use the endless procedure to bankrupt you. I had nightmares for months after release that I had somehow been hit with new charges. By the time I was pardoned by President Trump, I had spent literally every single day of Biden's presidency either in prison or under some form of supervision. I had incurred over $300k in legal fees and over $1 million in lost business. It was a reign of terror, and yet it was a mere foreshadowing of what they had planned for anyone else who opposed them under Kamala. The country should never forget it.

For decades, every sitting U.S. president has been subject to mandatory annual IRS audits. Democrat or Republican, it didn’t matter. The law existed for one reason: to make sure the most powerful person in the country wasn’t secretly using public office for private gain. Every president accepted it. Then came Donald Trump. On May 18, 2026, Trump’s acting Attorney General Todd Blanche who previously served as Trump’s personal defense attorney quietly signed an agreement that permanently blocks the IRS from auditing or pursuing tax claims tied to Trump, his family, his companies, and close associates for anything filed before that date. No press conference. No congressional vote. No public debate. Just a buried link inside a DOJ statement. And what did Trump give up in return? A lawsuit against the IRS that legal experts believed was on the verge of collapsing in court anyway. What did he get back? A massive $1.7 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund” financed by taxpayers. That money can reportedly be distributed to people claiming they were unfairly targeted by the government including Trump allies, supporters, and January 6 defendants. Oversight of the fund falls to a five-member panel selected entirely by Todd Blanche himself. So let’s review this carefully: Trump appointed his own former lawyer to lead the Justice Department. That lawyer then helped secure protections shielding Trump’s network from past IRS scrutiny. At the same time, billions in public money were authorized under a system controlled by Trump-appointed loyalists. If an ordinary American tried to erase their IRS exposure through political influence, they’d likely face criminal charges. But when power protects itself, accountability suddenly disappears. This goes far beyond partisan politics. The concern is whether the legal system applies equally to everyone or whether some people can simply rewrite the rules once they control the government.

Tennessee taxpayers are now paying $835,000 after a retired cop spent 37 days in jail for sharing memes about Charlie Kirk. Larry Bushart, a 61-year-old retired officer and National Guard veteran, didn’t create the memes. He didn’t threaten anyone. He simply reposted political content online. One meme quoted Donald Trump’s own words: “We have to get over it,” referencing Trump’s response to the 2024 Perry, Iowa school shooting. But Perry County officials claimed people might confuse it with their local high school and treated the post like a criminal threat. The sheriff later admitted he knew the meme referred to Iowa and acknowledged that most of Bushart’s posts were protected free speech. Yet Bushart was still arrested, hit with a staggering $2 million bail, and left sitting in jail for over a month. No evidence of public panic was ever produced. School officials had no complaints on record. The “mass hysteria” used to justify the arrest appears to have existed only in the sheriff’s narrative. While jailed over online speech, Bushart lost his job, missed his wedding anniversary, and missed the birth of his granddaughter. This is what should alarm everyone: the government imprisoning someone over political expression it disliked. Free speech cannot depend on whether authorities approve of your opinion. Reuters later reported that hundreds of Americans faced investigations, punishment, or scrutiny over online posts after Kirk’s death. Bushart just happened to fight back — and win. Now the county is paying nearly a million dollars to settle his civil rights lawsuit, while the officials responsible face no personal consequences. A country that arrests people for sharing memes is walking a dangerous line. Rights only matter when they protect speech people in power dislike.

.@JamesTalarico: Can you name a school where it has been confirmed that students are using litter boxes? Republican: W-well… This bill prevents that from happening Talarico: Can you name a school where that’s happening? Republican: N-no I cannot Talarico: I find it concerning that these types of debunked conspiracy theories are being used by politicians at the highest levels of our government who know that they're incorrect. This whole thing is just weird and honestly a little creepy, and I think that's the point because this is all, in my opinion, a manufactured, debunked smear campaign against our Texas public schools. These culture war attacks are nothing more than an effort to discredit our public schools to justify defunding those public schools. Texas librarians are not grooming kids, Texas teachers are not indoctrinating kids, and Texas schools are not providing litter boxes. And I think the most disappointing part about all this is that I think you know that.

@TeamTalaricoHQ @jamestalarico Good one James. Congrats, you got him. Unfortunately the schools have plenty of furries. The bill may be stupid but that’s because the “reality” of these furries is equally as stupid. Why are we allowing this behavior? Oh yea, it’s your party pushing it on us.
