Do I have any friends at the CPM conference in SF this weekend?

@MrDeltaMath Thanks so much for the response! Those features sound cool, if you ever need beta testers let me know :)

@mckeemath Unfortunately no. The question wording would imply what is required and if you assign it, that would be required. I do have some ideas of certain aspects of given modules being controllable for teachers (like that - and maybe solution method) but that is not in the works yet.

Hey @MrDeltaMath quick Q, is there anyway to somehow disable the “answer must be submitted in simplest form” condition and allow equivalent correct, but unreduced answers to earn credit?

@teachbk Send an email to the teacher that your child will either not be doing homework, or will be doing homework for a set amount of time each night. That you expect this not to impact the child’s grade and if they have questions they should contact you.

I can’t take my kids out today because they have too much homework. This is a regular occurrence on weekends. Nights are also booked around assignments. Homework is a thief of family time.

@mathteacher24 @mdsteele47 It’s not even college I worry about, it’s everyday life. Not being able to do basic math is akin to being illiterate. I agree it’s demoralizing and I don’t genuinely intend to fail them, but they are lacking essential numeracy skills and I want to support them developing these.

An unpopular take but I am struggling to justify giving passing grades to HS juniors who don’t know their basic times tables. What does #mtbos think of requiring timed tests on times tables at the high school level? And any suggestions for teaching times tables to 16 y/os? Lol

@MrsSheehanMath I know in my heart of hearts that you are right, and they do have a multiplication table already or just doesn’t occur to them to use it! They get stuck in a problem when they need to know how to multiply and then they give up. It makes problems FEEL so much harder to them

@mckeemath Chances are the students who don’t know their times tables already feel less confident in math, and timed tests probably wouldn’t make them more confident. But giving them a tool to support their learning might help them rely on it less and less as they use it more!

Three different sets of “notes to your future selves” on the same topic. I gave Ss the learning goal, and the problems they solved on their boards, and they created this 🤩 #ThinkingClassroom #iteachmath #mtbos

@Aaron_Good_ Also annoying that Trump and the right-wing have managed to completely tar the term "deep state" as a conspiracy theory, when it undeniably exists and should be queried about x1000 more than it is.

Excited for @Aaron_Good_'s new book. I remember one of the big shifts in my world view came during a class in college on national security, when it was noted that American foreign policy in the 20th century was remarkably consistent across admins. And then we moved on!

Heard a (male) S calling out his friend, another male, for comparing two girls today, saying one is “better” than the other. S1: “Bro that’s messed up, you don’t talk about people that way, how would you feel if she said she preferred (another S) over you?” 👏🏼👏🏼 love to hear it

Anyone got good #ThinkingClassroom lessons for teaching the graphs of rational functions? Usually I use @Desmos for this but the internet is currently unusable in my district 🥲

My biggest class this year is 20 kids. My smallest is 12. This is going to be a big difference from last year when almost all of my classes were in the 25-30 range 😅 Grading is going to take SO MUCH LESS TIME 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

If you forgot what 7×8 is, what would your go-to method be to mentally verify the answer? (A) 7×7=49, 49+7=56 (B) 7×4=28, double it, 56 (C) 7×10=70, subtract 7×2=14, 56 (D) 8×8=64, subtract 8, 56 (E) other

Student generated notes are starting to look so good! Notice every student picked their own example, and everyone’s look different because KIDS decided how to structure their own notes! #ThinkingClassroom #iteachmath #mtbos
