the neat thing is devin actually sees the *output* of commands you just ran how does that work? we use a "pty wrapper" program around your shell, and then tell your shell to emit specific markers for it to track when you launch devin via C-g it injects the context for you
Cognition@cognition

Earlier this week we announced Devin in your terminal. Now Devin is inside your shell. Hit Ctrl+G and it sees what you see to instantly help you out. try it: `devin shell setup`

I don’t buy the idea that libraries will go away since everyone can just write their own now. Maybe for small internal company use-cases. But libraries are not just code, they’re time invested in edge cases, they’re hundreds of hours of human eyes. I don’t want to replace that.

@fjzeit but i also think a decent reason for the popularity is just because people think it looks/feels cool lol

mostly just cause i'm usually already in the terminal :) or i'm ssh'd into some machine and want to quickly spin up an agent to do some maintenance tasks i agree that a good gui is much better -> this is why in Devin for Terminal we built /handoff to seamlessly get you to cloud, are integrating devin for terminal into windsurf, etc.

Awesome to see! Let's replace the Alacritty core with libghostty-rs. If there are any shortcomings in the libghostty API I'll address them immediately. I know some view Ghostty as competitive to Warp at a GUI level, but the goal was always to empower other terminal apps via libghostty and there was no other vehicle to get that out than to build a GUI too (similar to Alacritty and their vte crate). I don't think I've ever talked negatively about Warp online (except maybe the login thing they fixed ages ago), I've always respected that they're trying something different. I know Warp has moved on to being a much bigger vision than "just" a terminal, but let's modernize that terminal core. :) github.com/Uzaaft/libghos…

Warp is now open-source.

in addition to just the raw capabilities — obviously it’s really powerful — we spent a ton of effort making this feel good in your hands it’s fast, you can see everything stream in, supports all the shell shortcuts you’re used to, uses your terminal scroll back so you can pop in and out seamlessly… I really can’t go back to clunky tools that take up my whole screen anymore. give it a shot and lmk if you have feedback on ux polish (or anything else about devin and devin for terminal!)
Cognition@cognition

The terminal hasn’t changed much since the 1970s. What you do with it has. Introducing Devin for Terminal: everything we learned building Devin, now as a local agent, available right in your shell. And when your work outgrows your laptop, hand it off to the cloud.
