Only 150 Zaporozhian Cossacks were involved in the actual battle. Another 1,200 arrived after the battle had ended. Even a generous estimate (around 5,000) would be less than 10% of the army. TL;DR: The claim that 30% of Cossacks from Ukraine took part in the Battle of Vienna is not true. Likely made up by Ukrainians.

@SlimWiggy I bet schools in Europe teach history, most people even realize Mordor from LOTR is based off the Ottomans in Anatolia. And then Gondor is Vienna. The cavalry of Rohan are those winged hussars, who arrived (30% were Cossacks from Ukraine, btw)

While references to the Barbary pirates and Islamic enslavement of European Christians is rare in the modern era, here's a notable exception. Outlander (book 1991, show 2014) doesn't focus much on the topic but does introduce a character who had been abducted and maimed during his captivity in Algiers. It's brief, but just these few sentences about character Hugh Munro's story says it all. Captured at sea, held in captivity, tortured in an attempt to convert him "to the Musselman religion," which is precisely how an 18th century character would've worded it. This was the all too unpleasant reality until the 19th century for Europeans. A constant threat of abduction and enslavement by Muslims, who in no way see a moral or religious issue in conquest, taxation or enslavement of non Muslims. Overall, Outlander was great at including these bits of history and kind of flew under the radar as a rather unwoke bit of television. There were a few films shortly after WW2 on the this topic but references dropped off sharply after that era, which made this scene all the more refreshing and realistic to the period:

The Kirklees Independents Group has confirmed it will not support a Reform led administration, setting out a clear and principled stance following the May 2026 elections. In a council where no party holds overall control, the group has made it clear that the future of Kirklees must be built on genuine change, fair governance, and delivering real improvements for local communities. Speaking on behalf of the Muslim-led group, Cllr Habiban Zaman said: “Our message is clear, we will not support Reform. The people of Kirklees voted for change, and our responsibility is to deliver that change in a way that genuinely improves people’s lives. We are here to stand up for our communities for cleaner streets, safer neighbourhoods, proper investment and real accountability at the council. We are ready to work constructively with others who share that commitment, but we will not compromise on what our residents expect and deserve.”

@AkkadSecretary Rather low proteins/relatively high calories. You get fat from eating food like that consistently. Doesn't matter if home cooked or restaurant cooked.

It's peer pressure, a.k.a. being sheep. If you don't have an EV, you won't get invited to the dinner party. It doesn't matter if the village you live in has frequent power cuts in the winter. Nothing pisses them off more than my 38mpg motorbike though :) p.s. To be fair I've noticed that trend fading a bit during last couple of years.

A lot of middle class people buy EVs simply because they do as as directed by the state. The downgrade in convenience doesn't matter to them because they don't have the same demands on their time, and enjoy the social status of obedience and of being early adopters. For every well-to-do family that buys a useless status symbol EV, nearly all of them have a back up petrol car.
Taysider01@popcrights

@croucher_tiger @AngryEddie1 @RichardWellings @FUDdaily Your first point is just plain wrong and your second doesn’t address my question. Do you imagine almost a quarter of new car sales are EV’s only because of subsidies, despite the fact they’re only available up to a certain price point.

Once again, the railway network is in complete disarray. What shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes is becoming again a 3-hour trip where passengers are told to get into trains that totally change course midjourney.

@FUDdaily They've been doing this for decades too. I am not sure why this is news. Russians don't give a f about "international standards". They just want to have fun.

Um. You know that's what interceptors are for, right? If enemy spy planes are skirting your territory, you intercept them.

🚨BREAKING🚨 Russian fighter jets repeatedly intercepted a British surveillance plane over the Black Sea during a series of “dangerous” flybys.   A series of aggressive actions last month, revealed today, saw one Russian Su-35 warplane fly close enough to trigger emergency systems on the RAF Rivet Joint aircraft, including disabling the autopilot system. In another dangerous intercept, a Russian Su-27 aircraft conducted six passes in front of the British aircraft, flying within 20ft of the Rivet Joint’s nose. The jets were travelling at speeds of about 500mph. Video footage, released by the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday evening, showed one of the Russian jets - armed with air-to-air missiles - cutting directly in front of the RAF plane. The Rivet Joint aircraft was carrying out a routine flight in international airspace over the Black Sea and was unarmed, which is part of the UK’s work alongside allies to secure Nato’s Eastern Flank. This week, representatives from the UK Ministry of Defence and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office démarched the Russian Embassy to condemn the pilots’ dangerous and unacceptable behaviour. Defence Secretary John Healey MP said: “This incident is another example of dangerous and unacceptable behaviour by Russian pilots, towards an unarmed aircraft operating in international airspace. These actions create a serious risk of accidents and potential escalation. “I would like to pay tribute to the outstanding professionalism and bravery of the RAF crew who continued with their mission despite these dangerous actions. “Let me be very clear: This incident will not deter the UK’s commitment to defend Nato, our allies and our interests from Russian aggression.

@FUDdaily And it's a pointless statistic which gives a false picture of reality. A.k.a. propaganda (endorsed by a moslem, ironically).

Read the full blog at bung.ie/d2_may_21_2026 For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Through all the ups and downs, surprises and triumphs, building Destiny alongside our players has been a monumental privilege. While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2. As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games. To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will release the final live-service content update for Destiny 2 to begin that new journey as a studio. Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today. Many changes in this final update will aim to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to. We’re proud of Destiny 2, the places it took us, and the legacy it has created. Because of you all, our universe is vast, built on years of shared stories, adventures, and victories. From the Cosmodrome to the Pale Heart to the Lawless Frontier, we have forged life-long memories and friendships with you all. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made that journey with us. From the deepest part of our hearts, thank you, and we'll see you in the stars.

We wanted to highlight a few issues we're aware of and working to resolve: ➡️ Unavailable Enhanced (Green) Sponsored Kits: We’re continuing to investigate the root cause preventing access to the free Enhanced (green) Sponsored Kits. We’ll share more info as soon as we have it. ➡️ Key Templates: We’re aware of an issue causing previously held key templates (both in your Vault and those from your Armory before the reset) to continue to appear as Fragile. These will actually require a Matter Fixative to convert upon exfil as if they had the Compromised trait. New Key Templates should show as Compromised. ➡️ Rooks Spawning in Shipping Containers on Dire Marsh: We're aware some Rooks loading into Dire Marsh (near Complex) find themselves locked in a box. Thank you for all your reports!

The truth is this, and you don't want to hear it. 'You weep for this reckless, speeding, uninsured, helmetless young motorcyclist and you curse the Audi driver. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know; that this young rider's probable death, while tragic, probably saved lives.' Abridged from a 'Few Good Men' (1992)
