It is hard to believe that Labour is even considering paying £1bn a year to the EU. Has everyone forgotten that we buy more from them than they do from us, and have done ever since we joined the Common Market? If anything, they should be paying us! (Actually they shouldn’t. Free trade should be just that, free)And our exports to them post Covid are broadly on trend for pre-Brexit levels. The restraints on growth are down to appalling tax and regulatory policies, as well as some global headwinds. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

@CrookRanald @PippaCrerar @peterwalker99 Nhs waiting lists are down, small boats are way down (so far this year), they have been transparent on all issues with this gov. And finally, recognising the Palestinian state and sanctioning members of the Knesset is not blind support. It might not be all you want but...

@PippaCrerar @peterwalker99 Not true. Prior to the election Starmer ridiculed the Tories over, among other things, Illegal Immigration; NHS waiting lists; lack of growth: the need to clean up Parliament with "transparent" government. "Change" was the word. What did we get? Blind support of Israel.

NEW: Labour MPs are calling for end to “endless drama” of leadership speculation, with some warning that repeated briefings about toppling Keir Starmer are putting off voters, @peterwalker99 reports. “All people want is a government which works, and not the endless drama. We are in a very tricky global situation, and to have this never-ending conversation about who might have a certain number of supporters feels extremely self-indulgent,” says one MP. Worries are shared even among some who strongly believe Starmer should be replaced. “You can both think the PM isn’t the right man to lead us into the next election and that now isn’t the right time to replace him." theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

@stuey_beef If you gave a private firm the same amount of money you pay in national insurance you would get about 20-30% each year of what the state pension pays. Noone is defrauding, its just not affordable, and ordinary tax money (not NI) is paying for it.

The state pension is not a random government favour, it’s the back end of a 35–40 year compulsory “contract” where people are forced to hand over National Insurance on the clear promise of a basic pension at the end. Politicians and think tanks helped design an unfunded, pay‑as‑you‑go system where today’s workers pay today’s pensioners, then have the gall to call it “unsustainable” as if the public dreamt it up. If a private firm sold you a retirement product on fixed terms, took your money for four decades, then announced at 66 that you “didn’t really need it” and would henceforth be means‑tested or frozen, they would be in court for mis‑selling and fraud. The crisis here is not pensioners “leeching off the young”, it’s a political class that built a Ponzi‑style NI system, diverted the proceeds for other spending, and now wants to default on the people who kept their side of the bargain. You do not blame the victims of a defective product for believing the brochure; you go after the people who wrote it.

In the latest crushing bad news for the UK, Prime Minister Keir Starmer insists he's staying put whatever the local election results. He will redefine his 'vision' for the country and insists he is the best person for the job. Looks like he'll have to be prised out, screaming.

The highest tax burden since the 1940s and record government borrowing still isn't enough apparently Time for @UKLabour to stop spending other people's money and get a grip on spending And de-regulate. The country is being strangled by red tape. Just look at the new Thames crossing... More than £1 billion spent and they haven't broken ground yet Cut regulation. Return to principles based regulation and stop trying to control every aspect of our lives
Lee Nallalingham@LNallalingham

🚨 Rachel Reeves still has a £50bn black hole in the finances?! The Office for National Statistics has confirmed the government is still running a £50bn deficit. This is after: ❌ Borrowing £280bn in the last two years ❌ Raising taxes by around £70bn So taxes go up. Borrowing goes up. And we’re still tens of billions short. This simply isn’t sustainable.

In the last 6 months, Kemi Badenoch has become one of the most effective operators in British politics. She has consistently held Keir Starmer to account, dismantled weak arguments, and used data to pin him down. Clear, composed, and increasingly hard to ignore with her tough stance on crime.
Ben Graham tweet media
Ben Graham@BenGrahamUK

It’s refreshing to see Kemi Badenoch go straight to the scene in Golders Green and face the public head on, especially when it could easily have turned into a PR disaster. With emotions running high, this had all the ingredients to go badly wrong, but she handled it with composure and intent. The more I see of her, the more impressed I am.

As I wake up this morning to news of yet another fantastic local cafe closing, you bet these Labour Budgets have been disastrous. With boots firmly on the necks of small businesses, the increased NICS, highest VAT rates for hospitality in Europe, clobbering farmers & disabled people. They chose to balance the books on the backs of hard workers and the vulnerable. They are different ways of doing things. The ramifications of these budgets are hitting communities hard and I won't be quiet about it!

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has been criticised for posting a social media video opposing reforms to the Legacy Act that featured footage of soldiers on Bloody Sunday. Thirteen people were shot dead when the Army opened fire on civil rights demonstrator. The Tories said the video was removed "as soon as we were made aware of the footage". bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
