Oito anos atrás eu minimizei os movimentos de saída do Github por causa da sua compra pela Microsoft. Por muitos anos eu estive certo, o serviço cresceu em vários aspectos e melhorou. No fim, quem dizia "calma, uma hora eles vão destruir o serviço, dê tempo ao tempo" é quem estava certo. Eu estava errado. Uma pena. Mas, por outro lado, esse surgimento de code forges descentralizados, muitos comunitários, como o Codeberg, é bom. Saímos das mãos de uma empresa privada, que poderia usar essa concentração contra a comunidade de software livre a qualquer momento, para algo mais resiliente, onde o enshittification e a venda de dados não tem espaço. Que fique de lição, pra mim e pra todos nós. E é bom lembrar: ir para o Gitlab é só trocar o corporate overlord. Não muda nada.

🇦🇲 Youtube удалил в Армении десятки каналов, положительно отзывавшихся о России — по жалобе финансируемой Еврокомиссией НПО. Об этом с гордостью объявил глава НПО "Союз информированных граждан" Даниел Иоаннисян. "Демократия" работает следующим образом: 1. Спонсируемая извне неправительственная организация составила список каналов, которые, по её мнению, вмешиваются извне в армянские выборы. 2. Списки передали американским сенаторам, а они обратились с ним к главе Alphabet (Google) Сундару Пичаи с требованием "принять меры по защите выборов в Армении от российского вмешательства". 3. Затем американские чиновники удалили каналы граждан Армении, обвинив их в участии в жизни Армении. Под каток демократии попали даже исторические каналы, упоминающие Россию в положительном свете, а также странички критиков фонда Сороса*, сторонников оппозиционных партий. ▪️Среди спонсоров "Союза информированных граждан" указаны Еврокомиссия, посольство США, фонд Сороса*, правительство Великобритании и посольство Франции в Ереване. * Организация, признанная нежелательной в России.

Me questionaram o porque do LVM, e eu tava usando por causa da partição de swap, mas eu tenho 64GB de RAM e nunca uso swap. Removi o LVM e vou adicionar swap via arquivo, simplificou o setup e ganhei um pouquinho de desempenho. Nada como viver em comunidade!

Estudando secure boot, TPM, Platform Configuration Registers (PCRs), GRUB, systemd-boot e todo o entorno para implementar full disk encryption no NixOS em dual boot do Linux com Windows. Vai dar um certo trabalho, não é algo já pronto no NixOS, mas parece que já descobri o caminho e vai funcionar. Você faz o que quiser no NixOS, é legal demais construir seu próprio Linux.

Acho engraçado como elogiam o Japão por ser uma sociedade absolutamente controladora, cheia de pequenas regras. Mas, quando se trata da China, é um pânico: cadê nossas liberdades?! Na prática, a China é uma sociedade bem mais livre q o Japão. As relações são bem mais relaxadas.

Quand une entreprise privée se donne pour mission de définir qui doit être surveillé, ciblé, prédit, neutralisé, et qu'elle publie simultanément un texte expliquant pourquoi contester cela serait de la faiblesse civilisationnelle, on n'est plus dans la stratégie d'entreprise. On est dans la privatisation du souverain. Le droit de décider de l'ennemi, qui fut toujours le geste politique fondateur des États, est en train d'être racheté par une entreprise cotée au Nasdaq. Ce manifeste repose sur un seul tour de passe-passe, répété sous vingt formes différentes : rendre l'inévitable ce qui est en réalité un choix. Les armes à IA ? Elles seront construites de toute façon, alors autant que ce soit nous. La surveillance algorithmique ? La réalité géopolitique l'exige. Le réarmement de l'Occident, la hiérarchie des cultures, la disqualification du pluralisme comme naïveté dangereuse ? Simple lucidité face au monde tel qu'il est. C'est le geste idéologique par excellence : ne pas interdire la question, mais la rendre indécente. Ce que Palantir appelle réalisme est en fait une décision philosophique radicale : le conflit est la vérité permanente du monde, la délibération démocratique est une fragilité que l'adversaire exploitera, et une élite technologique privée est mieux placée qu'un peuple pour tirer les conséquences de cette vérité. C'est du schmittisme en hoodie. C'est littéralement la structure de leur pensée. Le danger n'est pas qu'ils soient fous. Le danger est qu'ils soient riches, cohérents, et déjà à l'intérieur des États. Palantir ne frappe pas à la porte des gouvernements pour vendre un outil. Elle arrive avec une cosmologie complète : voici comment fonctionne le monde, voici vos ennemis, voici pourquoi vous ne pouvez pas vous permettre de débattre, et voici notre contrat. Palantir est l'ennemie des peuples et de la démocratie. Ce qu'ils construisent, c'est un pouvoir technocratique que personne n'a élu et que personne ne pourra destituer.

Eu também poderia morar em qualquer lugar do mundo e escolho o Brasil diariamente. As pessoas, a comida, a natureza, a cultura, e nada disso sequer começa a descrever o Brasil. Ao contrário dos patriotas que adoram odiar o Brasil, que xingam nosso país, que gostam mesmo é de coisas de fora, eu amo meu país não só da boca pra fora.

Eu podia morar em qualquer lugar do mundo... Nova York. Miami. Lisboa. Dubai. Escolhi o Brasil 🇧🇷 Moro em Florianópolis. Passei os últimos 12 anos indo e voltando entre os Estados Unidos e o Brasil. Cada vez que voltava pros EUA, a contagem regressiva pra voltar começava no aeroporto. Aqui eu janto com amigos às 22h numa terça-feira e ninguém olha o relógio. Aqui o desconhecido no elevador puxa conversa de verdade, não só "how are you" com resposta automática. Aqui o churrasquinho de calçada às 18h com um guaraná gelado tem mais qualidade de vida do que qualquer restaurante de US$200 em Manhattan. Aqui eu saio de casa de chinelo, tomo um café na padaria da esquina, e volto caminhando pela mar. Aqui a natureza não é um parque que você visita no fim de semana. É a sua vida. Praia, montanha, trilha, cachoeira... tudo a 20 minutos. Nos Estados Unidos, as pessoas vivem pra trabalhar. Aqui, as pessoas trabalham pra viver. E ninguém pede desculpa por isso. O Brasil tem seus problemas. Eu sei. Eu vivo eles todo dia. Mas nenhum problema apaga o fato de que as pessoas aqui sabem viver. Sabem rir. Sabem acolher. Sabem transformar qualquer momento num momento bom. Isso não se compra. Não se exporta. Não se replica. É por isso que eu estou aqui.

@giovannibassi @BrodieOnLinux Distro, pra maioria dos usuários não diz nada. E na boa, nem como gerencia pacote, update cadence etc. O cara só quer usar o computador com um módico de conforto. Pros devs, ops etc isso até pode fazer diferença mas acho que hoje em dia pra maioria a estabilidade é o que conta.

Vi um vídeo recentemente no Youtube do @BrodieOnLinux onde ele argumenta que distros Linux não importam, o que importa é o desktop (Gnome, KDE, Cinnamon etc). Esse argumento faz muito sentido pra mim. Pra imensa maioria das pessoas a distro vai fazer pouca diferença. A gente só acha que esse é o caso hoje porque a maioria dos usuários Linux são muito técnicos. O que acham?

Germany, let me help: that's called the truth. And as long as you and other European countries refuse to grapple with it, there's little hope for Europe. China succeeds in large parts because they operate in reality, in fact it's one of their cardinal governance principles since the time of Deng Xiaoping, they call it "seek truth from facts" (实事求是, shí shì qiú shì). It's incidentally why they were better prepared for the consequences of the war than almost any country (even, ironically, the US itself: x.com/i/status/20385…): they very much expected the US would pull something like this. 58,000 Americans died in Vietnam. Over 3,000,000 Vietnamese died. And for fifty years, American culture has centered the grief of the 58,000 while treating the 3,000,000 as a backdrop. As scenery. As context. As "the Vietnam War experience." They built a wall in Washington with American names on it. A beautiful wall. A solemn wall. Good. Mourn your dead. But understand what that wall does not say. It does not say why they died. It does not say what they were doing there. It does not say what was done in their name to the people whose country it actually was. It does not mention My Lai, where American soldiers massacred an entire village, old men, women, children, babies, and the officer who ordered it served three years of house arrest before being pardoned. Three years. House arrest. Pardoned. For five hundred people murdered in a ditch. It does not mention the 2.7 million acres of Vietnamese forest doused in Agent Orange, a chemical weapon disguised as herbicide, that is still deforming Vietnamese children today. Not in 1970. Not in 1985. Today. Children born in 2020 with bodies twisted by a war their grandparents fought. And the chemical companies that made it are still in business. Still profitable. Still un-prosecuted. And yet they send us human rights reports. They grade our democracy. They warn us about our behavior. The audacity is so enormous it becomes almost impressive. Almost.

On this day in 1999, NATO began bombing its illegal bombing campaign of Yugoslavia without permission from the UN Security Council. Between 1200-2500 civilians were killed and 5000 were wounded. During the 3 months of bombing, NATO dropped between 10-15 tonnes of depleted uranium bombs. After years of supporting right-wing nationalist forces to undermine and weaken the integrity of Yugoslavia, NATO begun its campaign to break up the socialist state. Though it claimed to be intervening to stop ethnic cleansing, the Assistant to US Secretary of Defense Strobe Talbott revealed the real reason for the war: "It was Yugoslavia's resistance to the broader trends of political and economic reform, not the plight of Kosovar Albanians, that best explains NATO's war.” NATO openly bragged about its destruction of Yugoslavia’s infrastructure, with its spokesperson Jaime Shea proudly saying in 1999 “And the fact that the lights went out in 70% of the country…we can turn the power off whenever we need to and whenever we want to.” Between the 24th of March and 5th of June 1999, 78 industrial sites and 42 energy installations in Yugoslavia were damaged by bombing or missile strikes. The air strikes destroyed over 20 chemical and petrochemical installations, accounting for around 70% of Yugoslavia’s oil-processing capacity.

When Eisenhower was asked why the United States did not allow the 1956 Vietnamese reunification elections agreed upon at Geneva, he answered with unusual honesty. He said that if elections were held, Hồ Chí Minh would win with approximately 80 percent of the vote. So they cancelled the elections. Think about that every time an American politician talks about "spreading democracy." They cancelled the democratic election because the "wrong" person would win. They then spent the next two decades killing people to prevent the government that would have been democratically elected from taking power. And they called the other side anti-democratic. This is not ancient history. This is the logic that still governs every "democracy promotion" operation today. Democracy is acceptable when it produces the "right" results. When it does not, you cancel the election, back a coup, fund the opposition, impose sanctions, and call the government that the people actually chose a "dictatorship." Vietnam exposed this logic completely. Not with arguments. With history. With the receipts.
