We wake up to another mass shooting.
8 dead at a @FedEx facility in #Indianapolis.
8 more flowers added to the @GiffordsCourage memorial on the national mall. In addition to the 100 others killed yesterday who will not receive media attention.
Our national shame.

2 shootings in one week.
We demand more than thoughts and prayers.
We demand that our communities are supported, that lifesaving legislation is passed, that violence intervention programs are funded.
We demand a world free of gun violence.

We refuse to return to this normal. If we don’t treat gun violence as the epidemic it is, we are only jumping from one public health crisis to another. cnn.com/us/live-news/c…

The American epidemic rages on. I’m angry. I’m heartbroken. And I’m tired of asking where we should be able to feel safe.
Sending love to Boulder tonight. 💜

okay— the count down to 2021 begun, so time for an important reminder:
Please do not shoot a gun into the sky to celebrate. Celebratory gunfire can kill or injure people.
Tonight, celebrate safely and practice responsible gun ownership. #NewYearsEve

Shootings and gun homicides have spiked dramatically in D.C. in 2020—we need bold action to match the severity of this epidemic.
“Gun violence should be in focus not just when a baby is killed but every day.”

And a grounding reminder: Most Native, Black, Asian, and Latinx women had to fight for suffrage for decades more.
Our friends @teenvogue elevated the stories of women of color who have been disenfranchised and often written out of history. Check it out.
