Hamas was launching hundreds of rockets at Israel before the war. Now, Hamas launches zero rockets. Hamas invaded Israel on October 7. Now, half of Gaza is a no-man’s-land security zone. Hamas is paying pensions to the widows of 50,000 fighters and all its leaders are dead. Hamas controlled the Rafah crossing before the war and smuggled arms and explosives in from Egypt. Now, Israel controls the Rafah crossing. The only reason there is anything left of Hamas is that its remaining fighters cower among civilians so the Israelis can’t take them out without killing the civilians. But their capacity to threaten Israel has been completely degraded. Israel dictates when Gaza can be rebuilt and the Gazans will live in tents until Hamas agrees to give up power.

Iran firing at Israel nonstop (millions have spent the last 24 hours mostly in shelters, and the economy will be at a complete standstill for the foreseeable future), and is applying a clear tactic of saturating Israeli air defences and triggering an interceptor crises. If I'm reading them right, their initial response is designed to remove the immediate threat from US assets in the region, which they have been doing brilliantly, and, simultaneously, exhausting Israeli and Western air defences, which will compel the US and Israel to ask for a ceasefire. And there's the global economy front with the stoppage of West Asia gas and oil flow. But this is only the opening phase, and, as always with Iran, great methodicity is carefully applied. No missile is fired spontaneously. Every action is taken for a desired outcome, as part of a rigorously laid out plan. They are picking apart Israel's infrastructure and economy. In 10 days, the country will begin to crack. Maybe even sooner. We are not seeing Iran's achievements, but they are there. They have prepared for this, and the assassination of Khamenei makes the choices they face absolutely clear. They will not stop.
