James Madison described the powers of the federal government as “few and defined” and those reserved to the states as “numerous and indefinite.” We’ve been dangerously drifting from that understanding since the 1930s. The drift has been most evident in areas now most fraught with waste, fraud, and abuse. If we honored the Constitution’s limits on federal power, there’d be very little waste, fraud, and abuse in our national government. Share if you’d like to see a “constitutional reset,” in which any government function that’s not obviously and necessarily federal under the Constitution would be returned “to the states respectively, or to the people,” as the Tenth Amendment specifies.

@VicLombardi @American_cracka @BSO I don’t know the numbers and may be way off, and don’t care to look, but maybe the problem is less and less people are watching SportsCenter for their sports. I can click on x.com and find out everything I need to without ESPN.

@American_cracka @BSO I get it, guy. But I watch Sportscenter for sports. Maybe I'm the only one. Keep it off Sportscenter at least. Sacred ground.

@JAbro21 I disagree with you on this. I can be talked in to a 1- free transfer rule, but I’m out in the leave as many times as you want.

7/ The transfer portal might be one of the best things to happen to college athletics. Athletes can leave programs that fail them. Labor mobility is good. But we better guidance to athletes to more transferable credits so academics don't suffer.

🧵 Thread: The real economics of college sports — what the headlines get wrong. Everything you've been told about the "financial crisis" in college athletics is either incomplete or misleading. Here's the data. 👇

@ronaldusseryjr It's amazing all these lawyers never said anything until they figured out there is another pay day for them.

For decades, nobody pushed for federal regulation while athletes generated billions without compensation. The urgency to "save college sports" only arrived once players started seeing some of the money, and that framing tells you a lot.
Mit Winter@WinterSportsLaw

As @JayBilas correctly points out, there’s a lot of hypocrisy in college athletics right now. It’s only when athletes begin to get paid that it’s necessary to have a federal law to “save college sports.”

@CoachJFreeman86 What if your son gets NIL and you still disagree with it? Are you still a “Get off my lawn”hypocrite?

@KeithSmithNBA I’m sorry, but this take, along with the many more like it I have read today, is shallow and short-sighted. There is a much bigger picture in play, and it is sad that so many miss it.

Limiting college athletes to one transfer in a five-year window should be matched by limiting coaches to changing jobs of their own volition more than once in a five-year window too.

Can college coaches only transfer 1 time over a 5 year period without having to sit out a season?

@onpt8 @TruthBToldNow1 @ScoutSteveR Sometimes I think there should be test you have to pass to procreate, this is one of those times. Nice "Well Yeah, You Too!" comeback by the way.

@TruthBToldNow1 @ScoutSteveR Let’s see. Didn’t watch a single pitch of the series but my son did go to 2 games. I played a lot of golf and won some money. So I had a great weekend. Just stating facts

@_CATNERD2 That's what I remember the normal process being also but State had their starting center get his waiver approval last month for the '22 season. There doesn't seem to be any consistency with how the NCAA is operating at the moment.

Common sense. The only bad thing about yesterday was a player having to go to court for a ruling he should’ve already received. I’ve seen lesser cases approved for a 6th year. The NCAA arbitrarily enforcing rules isn’t a new thing. He met the requirements.

Shocking! 🤷‍♂️oh and imagine this the Judge decided not to apply anything close to what the Alabama Judge did in ruling with the NCAA in 🏀Bediako’s case. I gather @GregSankey feels differently about this decision. Just sayin’. The NCAA attempted to tie that decision to the Chambliss one to no avail. “The cases here are different” said Judge Whitwell. The Attorneys for the NCAA didn’t even wait for the Judges ruling, and likely needed an earlier flight for their next courtroom proceedings in Knoxville! The beat goes on, and the double standards continue while leaders of Conferences choose when to decide to power play to look good to those they serve….and they serve their College Presidents! 🤦‍♂️Happy for @TrinidadChambl1 he served his redshirt year, and the NCAA deserved this LOSS. Hopefully this will add to the embarrassment that’s been caused for 30 years of LOST leadership!
