@mtaibbi Turkeys have no significance in MA? My mom once hit a wild turkey on 495 which did some pretty significant damage to her car!

It's release day! You can now pick up A Man of Iron in hardback, e-book, or audio book (with an intro read by me). I hope you'll enjoy the story of an American president unlike any the nation has ever seen.

Dear Twitter, We all know this site relies on the [weird topic that suddenly got relevant] guy. He is a load-bearing wall for the community. Hi, I’m Troy. I’m the Grover Cleveland guy. And I’m reassessing a lot of life choices this morning. a.co/d/e0arpaL

@umichvoter I used to live in Millburn and lemme tell you, inflation is an issue there. That $377k is well spoken for with housing alone.

It’s astonishing how quickly people assume that a book about the place of children in human life is for and about women.

@joshtpm @TPM Tell me your eyes weren't drawn to what looks like bookmatched oak or cherry panels on the front and sides. Probably just plywood of course, and with the tacky blue paint, but for a split second...

Just surfaced a repressed memory of a cringe thing I did as a first year grad student. I had a pretty blank CV when I applied to internships, so I listed some semi-serious projects with cool sounding titles and put "Forthcoming" next to them. I honestly didn't know what it meant.

@mtaibbi I’m pretty sure that would have been already decided on well before the project start date so perfectly reasonable to say it wasn’t outstanding.

@statpumpkin @NYUStern You should assign a chapter from Casella and Berger on the first day just to show them who’s boss. Make them think about their life choices a bit.

Hey stats twitter! I've left the corporate world and will be a full time prof of stats and data science @nyustern in the Fall. Looking for good resources, websites, blogs, etc. for teaching statistics, especially to MBA students.

@phylogenomics It’s the most impressive athletic achievement I’m aware of. I wonder if it might lead someone else to try going both ways like that in the future, but my money is that we never see anything like this again.

The open source launch warning tool that @tylerni7 and @michaelnute built worked like a charm again—we expected to see an ionospheric disturbance but didn’t. That’s because the launch failed.
Dr. Jeffrey Lewis tweet media
tylerni7@tylerni7

fwiw here is the ionospheric data from the hour around the launch I don't see any large disturbances as I would expect. Even a "rapid unscheduled disassembly" should produce something, unless it happened at very low altitude. So either bugs in my code or broke up quickly?

North Korea conducted an ICBM test. The yellow flash in the video is an ionospheric disturbance created by the launch, detected in GPS data using a tool built by @tylerni7 and @michaelnute.

everyone I know including myself will be wiring funds to the largest bank they have a relationship on Monday morning it’s not “will it become systemic” it was systemic when the 16th largest bank failed and FDIC and Fed dithered about stepping bc “Silicon Valley” & “tech bros”

For us to avoid a future SVB, here are two things we could do as a country: 1) Restore Dodd-Frank legislative protections, which this bank would've likely failed. 2) Legislate that banks can't require 100% of your deposits be with them in return for debt of any sort.
