Made 🤤 Piet's Balls today: 1kg of minced meat (I use minced acém meat in Portugal, I think minced chuck steak in English, it's nice meat with some good fat) Then I use this pre-cut frozen garlic and onion, very good, let it defrost in a bowl a bit, it's frozen so the onion doesn't make you cry 👊 Then put it all together in a big bowl, add 1 egg, then salt (more than u think u need) and pepper, some paprika powder (always good on anything!), then add some flour so it gets more whole (ppl often use bread crumbs but flour is fine maybe better) and massage it all and fold it many times until it becomes one giant meatball I tried to make big Dutch meatballs (as big as a fist) last time but they're annoying to cook, takes ages and still raw inside Small ones like these are better and easy to cook in some butter, so I do that now The cooking is annoying still but okay, you gotta do medium heat (always on electric stove medium means like nothing comes out so more like 80%) and then you wait 3 mins for each side Because it's a meatball there's like 6 sides so it takes awhile, so yeah I'd say 15-20min? I thought about doing it in airfryer but it'd be less juicy but I'll try next time Anyway they were 10/10 excellent and JUICY and great protein source and gf + gf grandma loved them 😋

For those tracking the America closed source vs China open weight model debate: In an initial pilot on modernizing an application from PHP to Next.js, Opus 4.8 with 8090’s Software Factory was simultaneously 1.4× cheaper and 1.5× faster than Opus 4.8 alone. Pairing our Software Factory with the cheaper GLM 5.2 model cut costs 16.4×, though it ran 3× slower than Opus 4.8 alone. Results are directional (n=1 per arm), and next steps are to rerun with proper controls and 10–15 buyer-relevant legacy modernization tasks developed with our Sales and GTM teams. More to come but the important question it raises is why any American public company with shareholders burning money on closed source models when the open weight ones are so much cheaper? We will rerun this on American open source models next (aka Nvidia)…

My biggest shock today was that America still has post offices, like ones you can actually walk into with your stuff and package it and they help you send it out We don't have them in most of Europe anymore You have tiny little counters in dirty tobacco shop and a tiny DPD or DHL or PostNL branded counter with agressive staff that really do not want to help you, and no they don't have boxes Here's a FedEx post office we walked in today, they have envelopes, boxes, bubble wraps, everything! You'll say but FedEx is private, yes you mean like most European postal companies now that are also private? Just something as basic as this is abundance and we don't have it anymore in Europe
