The Global March to Gaza (marchtogaza.net) is more than a march. It is an act of global disobedience against one of the most brutal, enduring and profitable (ask Lockheed-Martin, Caterpillar, Palantir, ELBIT, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, Maersk, Barclays Bank, Allianz, BNP Paribas etc.) genocides. It is living proof that, even when governments remain silent or acquiesce, the people do not forget – and they do not give up. The thousands of activists who are now gathering in Cairo, in preparation of their March to Gaza, will cross checkpoints and fences; they will face untold obstacles and weapon-grade hurdles – and they will do so to honour internationalism’s most fundamental principle: None of us are free, if one of us are chained. No one can be free while Gaza is being levelled, starved, besieged and annihilated – especially when this crime against humanity is perpetrated, supposedly, in our name by corporations, banks, states, universities and armies whose power and authority stems from within our societies. As a citizen, as an internationalist, as an activist who demands that our actions and practices subscribe to minimal ethical standards, I wish to state my unconditional support for the March to Gaza and to salute the marchers not only for their courage but, primarily, for their determination to prevent the normalisation of genocide, to shatter the West’s guilty silence, and to remind the world that the only path to Peace is through a Justice that is meaningless without Freedom for Palestine. Let us all march together, even in our imagination, until the blockade of Gaza is broken, until the people of Gaza are saved from Israel’s meatgrinder, until the voices of the people of Gaza reach every corner of the Earth. I’ve been all over the country in the last month. And I get asked the same question, over and over again: “I disagree with Kamala’s position on the war in Gaza. How can I vote for her?” Here is my answer:

Difference is an accident of birth. Difference is of the essence of humanity. Respect for difference is the first and deepest principle of real peace. Today, on John Hume’s 4th anniversary, his core belief is more important than ever.

Why does a terrible attack on Ukrainian children bring about an immediate response from our new Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer while he has said nothing about the horrible slaughter of Palestinian children in nine months of relentless mass murder? Just to put this in context by 29 Oct 2023, barely a month into the Israeli assault, Save the Children declared that the number of children killed in Gaza was more than all those killed globally since 2019. Why is the mass-murder of Palestinian children less upsetting to him than an attack on those in Ukraine?
Keir Starmer@Keir_Starmer

Attacking innocent children. The most depraved of actions. We stand with Ukraine against Russian aggression - our support won’t falter.

Thank you to everyone who came out to send a message and send hardworking SDLP MPs to Westminster to fight for them this week. The campaign is over but the hard work starts now. A new government has promises to keep. @ClaireHanna and I will be there to serve all our communities.
