@labourlewis Hi Clive, what are your thoughts about private companies running GP surgeries and Care Homes etc? Surely they should take the hit for paying NI from their (often very large) profits. If that's the plan for raising money for public services, should they be exempt?

Norwich GP practices have told me they are worried about the increase in employer national insurance contributions announced in the Autumn Budget. I've written to the Chief Secretary to the Treasury with those concerns. GPs are already under significant financial pressure, and the doctors tell me that additional costs could strain resources further, potentially impacting patient care. Funding for GPs next year will be determined through the annual NHS contract, which will be negotiated later this year. I hope the government will then take that opportunity to address GPs' employers' national insurance concerns.
