The only solution to the AI alignment problem is to: 1. Identify what a superintelligence we have no control over will try to maximize. 2. Create a mathematical proof that caring about the well being of humans has a higher expected value than not caring.

@paulg I'm not sure this holds up to reality. It needs those discriminated against to do BETTER, but if they are equally good, then it easily becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy since funding is important to success. All else equal, less funding > less success > more discrimination

People casually claiming that VCs discriminate against this or that group should also mention that VCs have the strongest incentive not to discriminate of any group in the world. They personally lose money if they pick the wrong founders.

@gnopercept As a 21 year old, I really want to build and prepare for a solid 30s. Only so much one can do though, ultimately. Any red flags or patterns from peoples' 20s that are emerging?

@skad_i_am @gnopercept Learn to be your own best friend. Don't beat yourself up for not being perfect and living up to what society/others/your parents/yourself want. Try to get interested in things easily. IMO nothing staves off depression and negative behaviors more than being curious and engaged

@gnopercept @AbstractFairy It kind of makes sense when you think about how much how little structure there is for adults. If you suddenly lose the thing you spent all of your adult life grounding yourself with - job, spouse, ability - and you don't have good ppl around you, there's a deep pit to fall into
