@CKCapitalxx you're going against some shill army on this; I've argued with them tons; you also left out they can't produce R-Dimms (what workstations/servers need) above 64 GB modules while micron has already sampled 256GB modules

@wallstengine I guess the bigger story is that China’s memory industry is no longer competing only on price. It is gaining enough scale and domestic demand to start gaining pricing power too.

CHINESE MEMORY IS NO LONGER THE CHEAP ALTERNATIVE China’s largest DRAM maker, CXMT, is reportedly charging more than Samsung’s roughly $1,240 price for comparable 64GB DDR5 server memory modules. CXMT spent years competing as a cheaper, state-backed alternative. Now, AI data-center demand has tightened conventional memory supply, while Beijing has steered state-owned buyers toward domestic suppliers. Reuters reports CXMT has secured a five-year agreement worth more than $7 billion with ByteDance and another worth over $3 billion with Tencent. The company generated $7.5 billion in Q1 revenue, up 719% year over year, and is preparing to debut in Shanghai following an $8.6 billion IPO. New factories could more than double production capacity to over 600,000 wafers per month.

Kind of funny about how I see people blah blah midwit takes on distillation, this has been a COMMON technique known to my midwit ass for over two years. It is really strange how people talking about it won't even acknowledge or research to find out something isn't some new thing.

Buying a house on a 30-year mortgage in this economic environment isn’t "building equity." It’s voluntarily signing up for debt slavery during your prime years. Renting and putting every single dollar into high-growth equities is the only logical move right now. Change my mind.

$INTC reports in about an hour. The quick sheet. Street wants $14.4B revenue and $0.22 EPS. Q1 beat with $0.29, so the beat itself is almost expected. What matters is underneath. Gross margin at 39% is the line. Above 40% means 18A yields are running hot. Below 38.5% means the ramp is eating the growth. DCAI needs ~$5.5B for the double-digit sequential growth they promised. External foundry revenue was only $174M last quarter. Any real jump there is the whole story, that's the foundry becoming a business instead of a cost center. And the Q3 guide matters more than the print. Stock tripled in a year, confidence is priced in.

I was able to take a picture of the $AMD Mi455 Helios compute tray Lisa had up on stage with her during the presentation - I’m far away so the picture was blurry, Sol 5.6 was able to up res it significantly @jaygoldberg pointed out to me yesterday that they do not have a compute tray on display on the showroom floor, they only have a digital version of it on a screen In this image, you can see the complexity of the system @AMD is trying to ship in volume. It is a MONSTER of a machine. And the complexity of it is enormous. I think scaling this is going to be a huge lift. And I think they can do it, but I don’t think it’s going to be a smooth ramp

TFW too lazy to take your almost full die E/QS card out of your production box and take the waterblock off to see what is written on the heatspreader , after seeing you have 50W on the table, and can likely make a custom bios for the card.

$AMD MI455X is now confirmed to be selected by: > OpenAI > Meta > Microsoft > Oracle Plus possibly Anthropic, which seems to be an open secret Clearly, it brings something to the table, because these companies could use ASICs or $NVDA, yet they still want to bet on $AMD

Some observations on Kimi: 1. It's a very good model! I don't think its performance can be explained away by distillation or anything like that. In agentic coding sessions, it seems pretty much on par with the best public models of Q1 2026. In my fairly limited use, it also seemed very token hungry. It's not obvious to me that this model is actually that cheap to run. 2. I am personally surprised the Chinese state continues to allow the open sourcing of models this good, given potential risks. To be clear, I *myself* might be fine with models presenting this level of marginal risk being open weight, but I am surprised that China is fine with it. I suspect the reason they are is 75% explained by strategic blindness/lack of AGI-pilledness (the CCP is very Yann Lecun-y in its views of AI). The other 25% or so is their lack of compute for customer inference (making China's open-weight strategy an unintended byproduct of US export controls) and the normal Chinese strategy of aggressive exports. For the companies, as opposed to the government, the decision to open source is partially ideological and partially because they are behind, and they know that very few people would pay for sub-frontier models from China. 3. Open-weight models are inherently decelerationist, and I'm continually surprised to see the so-called "accelerationists" so excited about open-weight models. I suspect the reason they are is that they know open-weight models are effectively ungovernable, and they simply like the overall cloak of ungovernability open-weight models create over the whole of AI. It's not a bad strategy; it reminds me of James Scott's recounting of the hill people in "the art of not being governed." Still, in the end, open-weight models deter further AI capex. 4. One probable outcome of an open-weight-model-dominant world is full AI communism, which is precisely what China proposes: rather than a market product, AI is a "public good" which will ultimately be provided by the state as a kind of "digital public infrastructure." This future strikes me as a dystopian hellscape, but I've never met an open-weight models advocate who doesn't ultimately concede this is where things end. You'd be surprised how many 'accelerationists' lobbied me, while I was in government, to support an eleven or twelve-figure federally funded data center so that startups could train models at a subsidy and then give them away for free. There was no other way for AI to progress, they said. Perhaps this is the logical end state of things. Nonetheless, I find myself surprised to see supposed accelerationists excited about such an outcome. I think many of them just don't know what they're doing. Many accelerationists do not view the creation and serving of frontier models as a legitimate business. 5. I would guess that the Trump Administration will at some point realize that their best strategy here would be to create large amounts of regulatory risk around the use of open-weight Chinese models. You don't need to "ban open source" (one of the dumber motifs of AI policy discussion). You just need to direct every agency to issue soft law that creates FUD. "A Federal Reserve Advisory Bulletin found that there may be backdoors in Chinese AI models." It needn't be that well justified. You just create enough regulatory risk that every regulated enterprise backs off. You probably don't want to create so much regulatory risk that you scare off the hyperscalers from serving Chinese models; this will just drive startups to sketchier providers. There's a happy middle ground here. I'd assume they will do some version of this. 6. It's probably true that open-weight models of this capability make the world a bit more dangerous, but not so much more that you'll really notice. At some point the models will be capable enough that you will notice. "A nonliving, invisible, dangerous, and infinitely self-replicating agent escaped from a Chinese lab," you say? Color me shocked.

Had a vivid dream last night that MicroCenter was running a 75% off discount on the RTX Pro 6000, priced at about $3,500. In the dream, I thought, "Wow, even with a 75% off discount, it’s still $3,500!" Interestingly, I have not been following the pricing of the RTX Pro 6000. In the dream, they specifically said it was 75% off, only $3,500, which is exactly what it would be with normal notices floating around $14,000. ROFL 🤣 I thought they were $6,000.
